Saints near meltdown in 2nd half vs. Colts... a blessing in disguise (1 Viewer)

The Colts came out so flat. I was expecting the game to be close all the way so the end score didn't surprise me.

I think in the long run it will be a good thing. The previous win was needed and showed the coming together. This one showed the young guys that you can't let up. They almost ended up losing a huge first plhalf.

I think the offense will have more teachable moments than the defense. Where they only had two drives substainable against them with one being a redzone turnover.

Two other drives was Breaux tripping.

I'm actually excited with the offense. They are getting better. Scoring more points. Scoring 20 pts a game. Even a top 5 defense will lose games nowaday with that.

What breakaway speed? You didn't see him get pulled down from behind each time?

Haters gon hate! The first long run, watch him skate by the linebacker who had an angle on him at the line of scrimmage. Also, if Cooks makes a block he scores on that run.

I think the OP has a great point. I don't know that it would have been bad to win without giving up that lead. I do believe though that the game illustrated precisely why you play all four quarters with equal intensity.

In this league, it only takes a few lucky bounces or, a few missed assignments, or a couple slip-up/trip-ups, and the opponent is right back in the game.

So yes it's important not so much as to keep egos in check (which I think it might do) but it helps a team (especially with so much youth) learn how to be a team that finishes strong.

It's a good win. I'll take it. But the difference between winning and losing in the NFL is a very thin line.

That's the lesson.

Just like the defense, the offense will take some time to come together. Beside having a few old veterans on the team, most of the starters are new or in their second year. Crazy as it may sound, Brees struggled in this game. He missed some wide open Brandin Cooks crossing route that could easily gone for big yards. But this is a different team with different players and you can see everyone is playing hard. If this defense continue to improve every week and the offense gets going a bit more, this can become something special.
