Saints offer TE Foster Moreau a contract while there’s interest from other teams (1 Viewer)

Have there been reports on his current physical condition? Can he play?

This is what I'm wondering. If he can play then absolutely, make it happen. He's not George Kittle or anything but the dude can play. He's a solid all around TE and we could definitely use one right about now. If you look at the TE free agents still out there it's a pretty rough list.

If he can play he could be a steal. He was never going to put up monster numbers with Adams, Waller, Renfrow, and Josh Jacobs receiving the bulk of the targets but he was a starting caliber, reliable TE for the Raiders. He could be one of those sneaky good Loomis signings.

All of the sudden the Saints have receiving threats all over the field, at least on paper. Our TEs should be butt naked open most of the time. I feel really good about Juwan Johnson as a move TE weapon but we have to bring in an all around TE. If healthy Moreau is our best bet.

I'm almost positive we'll pass more this year than last. Plus Trautman may have had a half decent season if he caught the ball a little more and coaches had confidence in him. Moreau won't have a ton of yards here but could put up 8 - 10 TD type year.

I agree on us passing more overall, but from Moreau’s POV it will be how much he is involved when we are passing. I think Johnson is a lock to run the most TE routes, every other TE on the roster will likely have to take on more of the blocking duties on both passing and rushing snaps. On passing downs (3rd and 3+), we are more likely to send out 11 personnel (69% of snaps), and in those cases it will be Johnson getting the snaps.

Agreed, but how much money is he willing to leave on the table to make that happen? Would he and his family pass up an additional $1m/yr to be here?

If I were in his shoes, the answer would be no. Most NFL careers are short, and he may never get a shot to get that kind of money back if he passes it up now.

What's in our favor is that I think we would get every opportunity to match an offer (if any) from another team.

Yes, but I doubt a player in his situation, both football ability-wise and medically, would be seeing offers with large value discrepancies of that nature.
