The New Orleans Saints currently sit in the fifth seeded spot for the NFC playoffs with a 9-3 record. The St. Louis Rams are in the fourth seeded spot with a 6-6 record. It may not seem fair or make a whole lot of sense, but that's merely the way the NFL playoff system works.

Now this weekend's game with the Rams in the Superdome has so many more implications then many would have thought at the beginning of the season.

As it stands, the Saints sit second in the NFC South behind Atlanta and would make the playoffs as a wild card team. Both teams have four games remaining including a Monday nighter in Atlanta on December 27. Sadly, the Saints don't hold their own destiny in their hands because even winning that game won't ensure a repeat NFC South title.
