Saints sign K Cody Parkey (1 Viewer)

Yeah, Payton did make some confusing, contradictory in-game decisions last Sunday.

Lord only knows I’ve been very critical of Rosas performances so far this season as a temporary, backup PK while Lutz recovers from his injuring, but any logical Saints fan could see he wasn’t put in any real favorable situations last week.
It was a huge mistake. I can't see how fans can deny that at this point. When Payton is inconsistent on his decision making on when he can and cannot use our kicker...that tells the story...he should have replaced him last week. He didn't do it...and now we are at 2-2.

This is an improvement IMHO… not that Parkey is actually good, but Rosas’ was completely inside of his own head at this point and his confidence was shot!

Parkey is King Doink. He’ll look good until he gets a game winner and then he’ll manage to hit both uprights in the same kick and still miss.

IMO, on the second drive when we went on fourth and 3 from the Giants 29 wasn't about kicker concerns. I think Payton wanted 7 points. He went on fourth down twice on the second TD drive against the Packers - 4th and 7 at the 41 and 4th and goal at the three.

He went for the longer field goal the second time because he regretted not getting the 3 points earlier and the Giants were peskier than he anticipated. IMHO, of course.

Edit: As for Parker, I hope he has used up his life quota of doinks.

My exact thought too. Payton makes emotional decision a lot and perhaps going for it early wanted to send a message to the Giants. But then he let his emotions take over, “Oh God, I screwed up on the first one so let’s try this one from 58” is an emotional decision. An a very wrong one because the odds were against making it and he gave the giants 30-35 yards in field position which opens up their playbook.
