Saints sign OT Tony Hills (1 Viewer)

Armstead is likely to take minimal snaps if any this week. Thus signing a tackle makes plenty of sense.

Armstead is likely to play but he needs to rest that injury.

Peat will get work which bodes well for his development.

Wow. "Bounced around with several teams since 2008" is putting it mildly. Drafted by the Steelers in the 4th round in 2008, he spent 3 years there and played in 4 games in 2010. Released before the 2011 season, he has since been on the rosters of the Broncos, Colts, Bills, Raiders, Dolphins, Cowboys, and Panthers -- and after all that time, he'd played in a total of 13 games and thus was still eligible for a week on the Ravens practice squad last month. Gotta admire the tenacity!

We just signed him to pick his brain.....

McGlynn and Peat are our only backups right now. Jahri is for sure out. So, that's one backup for the three interior spots and one backup for the OT's. If Armstead is indeed out, then yeah, we definitely needed another backup. But even if not, we usually have 3 backup Linemen vs 2.

so we never have to watch Drew Brees running for his life because Bryce Harris whiffed on yet another block.........

Lelito took over that department with full vigor.

Got some players on defense. Wasn't Bill Davis the dc for the Cards back in 09?

TBH, if Armstead is out (with the way the OLine has been playing) Id prefer McCown to take the snaps.

I sometimes find myself engrossed by the surprising stories of lesser-known players who come through our roster, however briefly. I have no idea if Tony Hills will last more than a week or two in New Orleans, but here is more of the back story of how he came to have a ten-team career (so far) that has been the dictionary definition of "journeyman."

At Alief Elsik, Hills was called the top tight end prospect in the country and was an important early signing for Texas until he suffered a severe injury to his peroneal nerve in his last high school game, in December 2002. It wasn't clear if he would walk normally again, much less play football; his first surgery was only partially successful. A second surgery to remove scar tissue also "unexpectedly" restored his ability to flex his foot, and after intensive rehab he reported to the Longhorns (who had agreed to honor his scholarship despite the injury) in spring 2004.

But he'd gained a lot of weight while he was out, and wasn't as fast as he'd been before. So they moved him to tackle, where he was a backup to Jonathan Scott on the national championship team, then a starter for 2 years. A broken fibula ended his 2007 senior season after 11 games. He stuck with the Steelers for 3 years, played in a few games, and going into 2011 he was being seriously considered as a potential starter, but he ended up being one of the Steelers' final cuts in the 2011 preseason.

So in his peripatetic career he has both a national college championship and a Super Bowl ring (with the Steelers), played for 10 teams, and injuries, injuries, injuries . . . .

Asked how he would describe his career journey, Hills said, “A long one.”

“Ups and downs. Super Bowl victory. A lot of playoffs. Super Bowl loss. Spot playing a little bit to being out of the league to being back in the league,” Hills said. “So it’s just been a blessing, to be honest with you.”
