Saints sign Running Back Velus Jones Jr.

If you're talking about Marvin Mims Jr who Payton drafted two years ago in the second round, it's not really comparable.
My mistake, I may have been thinking of the former Jets receiver that bounced around a few teams, I thought he found a home in Denver with the Bronco's.

Give this guy a chance. You never know. Most people thought Zack Baun wasn’t much and then he goes to a different team to immediately have an all pro season.

FWIW, Underhill wrote in his article today that they will start Jones out as a RB and see how it goes.
I like that idea, because he's got speed, quickness and supposedly really good vision and balance on contact. If that's true, then I think he's the perfect backup ups specifically to Kamara. Meaning if Kamara is out with injury or needs a breather, they can use Jones the same way they use Kamara. Not saying he'd be as good, but good enough to keep the offensive game plan rolling without Kamara.

I think Edwards-Helaire has similar ability if my memory of him at LSU is correct. I think the RB unit is in good shape at the moment going into the draft. I don't think they have to reach for a RB.

It won't be a reach when Jeanty is selected at 9.

Didn't Velus put a professional career or advanced level of education on hold to play football? I seem to remember something like that from Hard Knocks.

If Miller can stay healthy I really think we are in pretty good shape @ RB. But depending on how the draft falls , like if we get T-mac @ 9 and maybe Grant @ 40 or an edge. We could take Taylor or Arroyo with one of the 3rds and a RB with the other

He may have potential to be a decent back, but the rb position needs an upgrade, I don’t think his signing will play a role in the teams draft decision. He is more than likely an extra back for practice more than a plug and play player.

I think with his addition to the RB group, they won't be going into the draft thinking they have to draft a RB.
