Saints sign vet G/C Lucas Patrick (1 Viewer)

You know you're a true Who Dat if you're excited about this signing.

At this stage, I think we all mostly just recognize that there is a need for capable OL bodies and was hoping for the front office to address that.

Patrick isn't a superstar caliber player, but he has started many games in this league over the past few seasons, and from all appearances, looks to be an on-field leader-type that could potentially start for us, so that also has people happy.

We were on DEFCON-1 on the OL 2 1/2 weeks ago, and suddenly things don't seem so bad.

A potential lineup of LT Fuaga, LG Patrick, C McCoy, RG Ruiz, RT Penning/"Ramcyzk miracle" has me feeling a lot more comfortable at least.

Penning at RT does seem to be more fitting.

That's going to be the big question going into veteran OTAs/mini-camp next week...where do we play Penning?

Do we try him at guard? Do we put him at LT and put Fuaga back at RT? Has the coaching staff truly given up on him and plan to have him run second or third team LT unless he shows value otherwise?

My opinion. I think he can definitely play inside at Guard, I don't think he has the quick feet needed at LT. We will see.

We have the bodies for a solid offensive line unit.

No big names aside from the home grown guys looking to make a name for themselves (McCoy, Ruiz).

Additions like Lucas, Udoh, Liemieux (sp?) will be glue guys with experience and versatility that help solidify the line.

The Saints have been very keen on identifying talent and resetting the cap as they recover from maximizing the final years of Drew Brees.
Excellent signing. Good backup for all 3 interior positions and possible a solid starter at one of them. Excellent leadership!

While I want Saldiveri to win the starting LG job , I think Patrick is going to wind up being our starting LG
Saldiveri can take RG Ruiz spot. Gave up six sacks last year. I’ve seen enough of him. Should’ve never gotten that big contract.

Versatility reminds me a bit of senio kelemente and before last year James hurst.

Very good pickup that should fill in anywhere. I still wouldn’t mind kicking the tires on Donovan smith.
