Saints to interview Giants OC Mike Kafka [Interview scheduled for Thursday January 9th]

You folks don't realize the potential value of having the NFL's marketing rights in the Czech Republic.

I know nothing about Kafka (the coach, and only a little more about the writer). He may be a heck of an offensive coach, but does he have the traits of a successful head coach in the NFL? I have no idea. But if we do hire him, the jokes will flow for as long as he is the coach and the team struggles.

Note no talk of interviews with Vrabel or Ben Johnson. We may end up getting a good coach, but the national perception is that the Saints job is near the bottom of the list in attractiveness.

Underhill says they will likely interview Vrable. And Johnson has already said he won't take every interview offered. I would bet that he turned down the interview or let it be known that he would turn it down if offered. He's going to go to a team with a good young QB ready to make the jump.

As I said in the bigger thread from Andrus, it's an interesting name. Former Northwestern (Illinois) QB so you know he is smart. Also was Mahomes QB coach and passing game coordinator for a few years before moving to the Giants as OC. Obviously the Giants offense wasn't good but hard to know if that's scheme or personnel.

On first glance you don't really want someone from the Giants, but he does have the Andy Reid pedigree.
I remember a few people on here wanted him before we hired DA

Let me stop yall with the development of Pat Mahomes.
Mahomes is a true generational talent. He was pretty much ready from his first start
Yeah and he had a yr of sitting and learning from guys like Kafka

Don't react to whether a name is big or well-known. Dig into a guy's background and see if he's lifted up guys, and not just ridden the coat-tails of stars.
Are you kidding?? That would require effort and an open mind and looking under the surface. On here??? LOL

Didn't he sit for like 16 games before his first start?
Yes that’s why I said first start. Mahomes would’ve been ready even if he didn’t sit. It’s obvious by watching this dude. He is unlike the other 31 NFL starting QBs. Some athletes are “touched by the hand of God”. He’s one of them. So many of his throws are not from NFL coaching bc he was making those throws in college.

OK, so there were a lot of things that aggravated me over the last year or two with Loomis. From his ignorant press conferences where he made himself look foolish, acting way superior and like he was far smarter than anyone else. To his miss handling of contracts and our coaching staff, etc..

However, I have to think he is just trolling fans now. With rumors of us possibly being interested in interviewing David Shaw, who works for the Broncos to possibly wanting to interview this coach from New York. blah blah blah, he worked with Mahomes. We all know he had zero to do with Mahomes having success. That’s God given ability and Andy Reid. I have to think he’s just aggravating and trolling us now. If he is indeed doing so I applaud him and think it’s hilarious.

Although it’s much more likely that he has no idea why he’s interviewing someone like this, because there’s literally no reason for the interview.

I’m kidding of course, but a hiring like this would at least make the board even more interesting.

I mean he did spend 16 games and camp getting coached up and Mahomes says part of that was Kafka.

And if he was so clearly ready before he was coached at KC and it was obvious by watching the dude, why did he last until the 10th pick and why didn't Andy Reid start him in the first game of his rookie season?

I don't know what if anything Kafka had to do with Mahomes development, but it seems pretty clear that someone helped him get ready to start in week 17 and that Andy Reid at least didn't think he was really ready before then.

Alex Smith had his best statistical season in 2017. I’m sure Reid took a conservative approach, to try and get his elusive ring. It would have been pretty ballsy to throw a rookie in there, but I’m sure despite the blow back Reid would’ve initially received, Pat would’ve adjusted just fine.
Plus, some coaches make dumb decisions. Much like Del Harris not making Kobe Bryant a full time starter until almost year 3. It took injuries to 2 guys for Kobe to get a good consecutive starting gig. It’s not that he didn’t have the talent and gifts, his coach was just a stubborn.
Just bc guys are head coaches, doesn’t mean they are perfect or they make the correct call every single time.

I'm just saying that if Mahomes was so clearly going to be a star and didn't need any coaching, then he would have been drafted long before #10.

And if you believe Mahomes, Kafka was part of the reason that he was ready when he got his first start. Of course, that doesn't mean Kafka is going to be a good head coach.
