Update Saints to interview Mike McCarthy in middle of this week, 1/26-2/1 per Pelissero [Underhill: McCarthy would have to be the current favorite] (30 Viewers)

You do realize that's a very subjective take, right? Additionally, having the opinion that this roster isn't built to compete doesn't make one a hater.

The blind eye who isn't paying much attention sees some bigger name vets (Demario, Cam, Mathieu) on the defensive side with a vet QB and big name HB and think that we're still poised to make noise.

The reality of the situation is that those big name vets are all liabilities on the field and are costing this team lots of money, and we have very few young stars. I'd love for that not to be the case. It'd be awesome if Demario, Cam, and Mathieu were still good players and giving good return on their contracts. It'd be sweet if we had more young building blocks on either side of the ball. It'd be nice if we had an attractive quarterback situation.

Halfway joking lol

I do think more of our team than most though. Think we’ve been made to look worse than we actually are due to incompetent coaching, and obviously, health.

I don't know what to think anymore. I'm all for being thorough, speaking to all viable candidates, dotting I's and crossing T's.

But here we are...we had an 8 week head start on everyone but the Jets. And somehow everyone else performed their due diligence, got the guy they wanted (or at least say they did), and we STILL don't know who we favor, let alone who we want? And now we have supposed favorites withdrawing from consideration? Is ML really that much smarter than the rest of the room? Or is he one of the reasons it's taking longer than every other team to fill a HC vacancy?

Something smells funny to me, but I don't know what it is...
The 8 weeks is pretty much irrelevant if the coaches you want can't be interviewed until after their seasons are completed.

Any idea whom in the Cowboys organization chose to trade a 4th rounder for Mingo please?
If it was MM then l want no part of him coming here, thinking it was more of a JJ decision though

Almost certainly JJ. Keep in mind McCarthy wanted Henry in a bad way and Jerruh noped out of that.

true, but seems like a LOT of due diligence could have been done before the season had ended. I'm not talking about "tampering". Maybe I'm wrong, but it feels like we woulda/coulda/shoulda known who we wanted to talk to on Black Monday. I still think we COULD end up with the next CSP....he fell into our lap in 2006, and maybe that's happening again in 2025. But the longer it takes to identify that guy, the more quality coaches we're missing out on to fill the new HCs staff. And I feel like THOSE hires are going to be what makes or breaks the next HC tenure.

We may still get "our" guy. But will "our" guy, get HIS guys? Or will we have missed out because it took so long to get our guy? It's a valid concern. JMO...

Not saying the concern isn't valid, but if they were set on interviewing someone who was still not available, there's nothing they can do until that coach becomes available for interviews.

Also, they had to wait for the Rooney rule to be satisfied before making a hire as well, and that didn't happen til recently.

I don't know what goes on behind closed doors, so I can't really comment on whether what they're doing is good or not.

You're anti-Brady bias has no bounds, you have never acknowledged why a team may have wanted said Brady to work with their easily top 2-3 QB in the NFL.....perhaps Brady was their only option, the only young promising OC willing to work with the likes of JOSH ALLEN, yup, he's all they could get.....LMAO at the clown post above....

What's going on in Buffalo is they are 1 game away from their first SB appearance in over 30 years and whether you recognize it or not, Brady is a big reason for that.....
are you saying Buffalos problem in the past since they had Josh Allen as their QB is their offensive production? other than Allen's rookie season, their offense is been pretty good..

If the Lions had beat the Commanders two other teams wouldn’t have coaches yet.

If the Ravens had beat the Bills we’d all have heard from Joe Brady a week ago.

It snowed in New Orleans last week. All in-person coaching interviews got delayed out of necessity.

Why are we still doing this lol

All fair comments. But if I may be allowed to play devil's advocate:

The Commanders won, and 2 other teams DID hire their coaches as a result of that. One of which was RUMORED to be a top target of the Saints. The 2nd didn't even want to talk to the Saints. Who knows what that thought process was? But I do find it perplexing why anyone wouldn't TALK to a prospective employer about potential opportunities for career advancement.

If the Ravens had beat the Bills, maybe Joe Brady would've withdrawn his name a week ago? Again, who knows why? Again, I do find it perplexing why anyone wouldn't TALK to a prospective employer about potential opportunities for career advancement.

It did snow in New Orleans last week. But there's also snow in Philadelphia. I understand NO probably isn't well equipped to deal with snow emergency, anymore than Philadelphia is equipped to deal with suffocating, triple digit heat and humidity. If only there was a way to charter a flight to Philly LAST week, to meet with a candidate in his current team facilities rather than NO facilities, perhaps this discussion is moot.

We're still doing this because, while your explanations are certainly plausible, and may in fact be correct; my alternative scenarios for explanation are equally as plausible, and also may be correct. We just don't KNOW.

Honestly, I like your explanations better, and I hope you're right. My biggest fear is that mine are right, because that would mean I have to acknowledge something I don't want to be true. I'm CLINGING to the notion that CSP fell into laps in 2006 and that worked out pretty well. It could happen again. Jeezus....PLEASE let it happen again!

I answered your question a while back but I'll try and appeal to the logic of the situation. When you have a young or even a QB that needs development you hire a QB whisperer to get the QB to where he needs to be. When you have and elite top 4 QB the need for a QB whisperer as a QB coach is not a dire need.

In 22 Daboll left the Bills to be HC for the Giants , he took Tierney the ast QB coach with him to NY. The Bills promoted Dorsey the QB coach to OC so there was a need for a QB coach. Allen was ALREADY AN ELITE QB before Brady got there.

My thing is like I said, way too much credit is given to him for LSU's success when he did not call plays there. He did not do well in Car , the only time he did not have an elite QB. He's not ready to be a HC , he may be one day but not now

I think when a team is doing in-person interviews, they’re going to tour the facilities as a part of that to talk about recent upgrades, ongoing upgrades, and planned ones too. Having a once-a-century weather event should have allowed even some grace from the fanbase but it didn’t - I guess they thought the team could, like, overcome it with brainpower or something.

By the temporary playoff fan poll I ran here a couple weeks ago, Johnson & Glenn should have still been coaching. One not wanting the job and one considering it but taking a different one has zero to do with the fact that those vacancies were expected to go unfilled a bit longer. Even if CHI & NYJ were done deals but for the formalities, the formalities came earlier than anticipated. That still closes two job openings earlier. They could still be on the waiting list but the 1-seed blew homefield advantage and now they have their coaches. Whoopty-doo.
