I think you share the sentiment of the majority of us. It’s not that McCarthy is “bad”, but he has had almost 20 years worth of opportunities with much better situations and largely underachieved.

I would hope that most of us can agree that Rodgers and Dak are better QBs than Carr. I would hope we all agree that Dallas’ young/prime talent on defense is much better than our aging talent on defense.

I just don’t know why we would think he can accomplish more in New Orleans than he did in GB/Dallas, and he’s only won 1 playoff game in his entire tenure as the Cowboys HC. It seems like settling to hire McCarthy.

So hire someone only 36 years old with absolutely Zero experience, sounds a bit wreckless wouldn’t you say?

The Saints will still require an elite QB1 regardless who the coach is going forward. I like my chances with MM plus an elite Qb compared to the other options. ( Rattler may develop into an elite Qb, or we draft say Howard or similar or trade up for Ward, or find the FA that’s ready to step up).

One is seeking his 3rd chance after his first two did not want him around anymore, while the other is on his second job after breaking the hearts of everyone in the organization and all of that teams’ fans that did not want him to go.

One is > .500 with a backup QB or a QB that’s not named Drew Brees. The others’ win % is sub .350 with a QB that’s not named Aaron Rodgers or Dak Prescott, two guys I think were top 10 QBs after (AR) and before (Dak) he was their head coach. Chargers on the other hand, let Brees out of the building and he ascended with Payton.

I think we’d all put Brees above Rodgers legacy-wise, but I also think most would acknowledge there’s never been a QB more talented than Aaron Rodgers. I think the gap that exists in their resumes and their legacies is that Drew Brees had Sean Payton and Aaron Rodgers had Mike McCarthy.

I am one who would not be excited if McCarthy is our new head coach.

Admittedly, I have difficulty articulating my unease. I do not think McCarthy is a bad coach. But despite his record, I do not think that at this time he is an exceptional one. In most years in Green Bay, he won. But in Green Bay, with one of the great (if prickly) quarterbacks in football and one of the great front offices in the league, he had a greater margin of error than his coaching colleagues. And that superlative front office decided after the 2018 season that the Packers would be better served with Matt Lafleur as their head coach.

In Dallas, his first and last years were unexceptional, and his three teams from 2021 through 2023 won in the regular season but faltered in the postseason. It seems that McCarthy's teams largely played up to the level they should have played but on the whole did not exceed it.

And McCarthy has been an NFL head coach, a profession that can age those in it quickly, for 18 years. He is 61 but looks a decade older.

Finally, if McCarthy is the choice, what does it say about how the Saints organization sees its team and its future direction? I believe a McCarthy selection says that we believe we can win immediately, and that we have largely been doing the right things the past three years and that a rebuild on some level is not necessary. I believe that is the wrong diagnosis and the wrong treatment plan.

So all of your hope for the Saints to succeed, is relying on a Jr QB in college. The kid probably drank 10 shots last night.

For the record, when Mike got to GB, Brett Favre was the QB. So everything that Aaron Rogers has become can be in a large part attributed to Mike Mccarthy.

Save yourself, your arguments are easily debunked. Just say what you really think. That You hate heavy coaches, or you feel some kind of desire for a young coach that we all can watch develop. .
I agree, that would be fun to watch a young coach develop, but the problem is, is that the current state of the team is in shambles, that the fan pressure to fire the young guy would be immense when he’s 0-8 to start next year. Everyone will be saying, I can’t believe we passed on a Super Bowl winning coach for this kid.

Absolutely FALSE statement on Dak Prescott. He averaged 4K yards per season, his TD to INT numbers were 97:36 before he ever even met McCarthy.. He’s made 3 Pro Bowls in his career and 2/3 were before McCarthy. Just a completely nonsense comment.

The Rodgers became Rodgers comment is fine if you want to believe that. But you’d also have to acknowledge that Joe Burrow was not Joe Burrow until Joe Brady entered the picture, if that’s the path you’re taking. Another guy tried to do that and literally raged out when I compared the two.

Whose arguments are easily debunked? You’re the guy that said easily verifiable 2X Pro Bowler Dak Prescott had never accomplished anything until McCarthy came along. Good try, though.
