I wonder why now?

Yeah, it does make one wonder. The Saints website has been updated this morning to show Kirklin no longer with the team. It has the newly signed OG Colby Gossett listed on the Practice Squad as well. The Practice Squad now has 15 players on it with a single opening. Why did the team release Kirklin now unless they plan to sign another player to the practice squad this week?

Interesting. I looked him up last night and he didn’t show on the roster then. With the UFL (XFL/USFL merger) draft coming up I was hoping he’d end up back with the Houston Roughnecks (which is the actual Houston Gamblers USFL franchise taking on the XFL Roughnecks identity in the new merged league). Kirklin was a star in Houston last year before an injury sidelined him for the rest of the spring season. The Roughnecks offensive passing game just about broke down after that. He’s a good kid who is perfect for that league, if not on an NFL roster. Maybe he asked for a release so he could get more spring league playing time and game tape. He hasn’t had much game time over the last year or so.
