Update Saints will interview Mike McCarthy in person during this week, Jan. 20-Jan. 25 (63 Viewers)

So, is there a known date/time for his interview? (Big thread. Dobt see specifics.)
Not yet

McCarthy is expected to meet with the Saints next week about their HC vacancy, NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports. This interview will take place several days after McCarthy’s Bears summit, which is scheduled for Wednesday. McCarthy and the Saints have not yet settled on an interview date, but a meeting is on tap nonetheless

But does a coach care about that?

I'm guessing Mike McCarthy likes good food and good restaurants so we do at least have that. Plus, NFL HCs are workaholics so it barely matters where they coach. If they don't like it they can live elsewhere in the offseason or they can live on the North Shore which is pretty much so anywhere America.

They probably care more about the owner, the front office, and the players than location.

One of the podcasts I was listening to this morning had a Cowboys reporter from New Orleans on it. He said when he found out he was from NOLA McCarthy would always talk to him about Destrehan. He said McCarthy loves Destrehan.

Interesting. I've been to Destrehan many times. Nice quiet place, but never thought it would be a draw for an NFL HC. But I guess it goes to show that you never know what a coach is going to find attractive.

Outside of GB and Jacksonville, every NFL team is in a metro city.
And with the way the League is set up, if you’re successful, you’re gonna get the national exposure no matter the market.

I lived in Destrehan (Ormond Estates) for almost a decade. Lots of Saints coaches in the neighborhood over the years, regularly saw Pete Carmichael jogging around in the evenings.

It isn’t spectacular but I can certainly see why it would have a lot of charm for a coach looking for a place to live. I can honestly say that the opportunity to move back to Ormond would probably be a draw for someone that’s lived there before, even a rich NFL head coach.

Yeah that's very interesting. I'm really curious as to the roles all those guys play because at what point is it having too many cooks in the kitchen?
You got 1 exe Head chef ML. A sous chef Mueller, A Pastry chef Harley. A head butcher Ireland. An Ice carver Zieglar, A baker Parenton

Nothing I've said has anything to do with whether or not Loomis had anything to do with hiring Haslett. Don't know why you don't understand that.

What I said is that Loomis has been with the Saints since Haslett, so he's seen from inside the organization how the Saints have done with defensive head coaches versus an offensive head coach.
What you said was ML was " In the Room" as in. in on the hiring process. That's what " In the Room " means . ML was not part of the hiring process for Haslett

Pretty sure Destrehan is one of the richer areas in Louisiana as well

That's were you are misunderstanding what I said. You keep focusing on who had the final say in the hiring of Haslett, while I'm talking about Loomis being around for all the discussions and decisions to hire Haslett, Payton and DA.

In the room just means being a part of private discussions and meetings regarding decisions and strategies. It means that someone is privy to the discussions and thought processes that lead to the decision that was made.

Randy Muellar brought Loomis with him from Seattle, because they had become best friends and confidants after working together for 15 years.

"When Mueller went to New Orleans, he took his best friend, Mickey Loomis, along. They had worked together for 15 years in Seattle."

It's extremely unlikely that Muellar didn't discuss head coaching candidates with Loomis. He most likely asked Loomis for his input, even though Muellar had the final decision. Even if Muellar didn't talk to Loomis at all about his thought process on hiring Haslett beforehand, he no doubt talked to Loomis about it after the fact. That means that Loomis was privy to the discussions and thought processes that lead to choosing Haslett as a head coach.

I've been in the room for a lot of things that I never had any authority over the final decision.

Mickey was 100% just a “bean counter” at that time. He was not apart of football related hiring processes.

It was a big deal when he got promoted to GM because at that time, he indeed was solely a finance guy.

This was Mueller’s (and Tom Benson’s) hire. Mickey has never been credited in any capacity whatsoever for influencing that hire nor has he ever claimed credit.

From the start, all I ever said is that Loomis was a part of the Saints when they chose Haslett, Payton and DA. He knows the private, as in not public, reasons and thought processes behind chosing each coach. He knows that they went defense, offense and defense. He knows that the Saints had their most long term stability and success under an offense coach. I personally hope that leads Loomis to deciding they need to go with an offensive head coach this time around.

You guys are getting so caught up in the org chart that you're not hearing what I'm saying. I'm talking about knowing what thoughts were behind what decisions. I'm not talking about having any authority or influence over those decisions. I'm talking about understanding and insight, not control or influence.

Muellar brought Loomis with him in large part, because they were best friends. If you were at a new job and you brought your best friend and coworker of 15 years with you, would you not talk to them about what you're thinking regarding each coaching candidate? Would you not share your thoughts with them at all?

You may not, but the majority of people would. Muellar back in the day said that one of the reasons he brought Loomis with him was that he valued his opinion and feedback. That means he talked to Loomis about decisions he had to make.

I'll try to make it very clear one last time. I'm not saying Loomis had any influence or control over the decision to hire Haslett.

What I am saying is that Loomis knew what Muellar was thinking when Muellar chose Haslett and why Muellar decided to go with Haslett. Loomis had direct access and insight into Muellar's thought process on hiring Haslett, because they were best friends and Muellar said himself that he confided in Loomis.

Understood and probably a fair assessment. Sorry for not understanding what you were trying to convey.
