San Antonio deserves some credit..... (1 Viewer)

Anyone remember this sign?

Shameful...I'll never forget what they tried to do. An entire region of the country lay battered and beaten, it's people still trying to just locate loved ones and these scum bags immediately go into a full court press to get the team to stay.

With the kind of taste these a$$hats displayed in trying to mug the team off the beaten body of a region, I'm kinda surprised those work-ups didn't suggest San Antonio Burritos as a potential team name.

Yeah they cared so much that they kicked the New Orleans Saints out for a womens volleyball tournament. Maybe its just me but if your trying to get a pro team you should go out of your way to accomodate them. Not womens volleyball. But it worked out good for us that San Antonio is so stupid. Also what players are still around from then? Devery, Stinchcomb, Will Smith, and Charles Grant. Keep digging San Antonio. Your bound to hit something sooner or later.

Look how OKC treated the Hornets, if SA did half the stuff they did, they might be a candidate for a relocation team.

At least they have seaworld, a trickling cess pool canal for a tourist hub and Tim Duncan. Does the writer really want someone from New Orleans to ever visit his city again?

On one hand San Antonio is trying to steal the team on the other hand they could not accomidate them better so they weren't having practices in parking lots and meetings drowned out by high school bands.

This.

At first I was happy to see SA helping us out, but only as time passed did we see the underlying premise for this. **** SA.:aargh:

The author is an idiot and is totally ignorant. Having said that, those of you attacking San Antonio need not do so. San Antonio wasn't in a position to tempt the team to stay and as I have written about before from research that I did on the NFL and San Antonio it did not attempt to do so when the Saints played their games in the city.

A couple of politicians shot their mouths off, but there was no true attempt by the city to lure the Saints to stay. Benson came here because SA is a second home to him and his family and would be easier on such short notice. Mr. Benson was looking at moving the team much further west.

Some of the fan base also shot their mouths off but those living here (native or not) did not want to see the team moved anywhere as the Saints are New Orleans and New Orleans is the Saints. I certainly would not have been in the number to purchase season tickets had any move occurred...I really would have been done with the NFL.

Please do not continue to make uninformed generalizations where San Antonio is concerned. And do not give idiots like Mike Finger any berth.

P.S. I added my 2 cents to comments on his column. I will state this again; having been part of a group that did a lot of research for the SA Sports Foundation I will be glad to go on at length to talk about San Antonio's look at the NFL and how it really had nothing to do with the Saints. It is a truckload of information including how other NFL owners weigh in on these kinds of things. Do you think that Jerry Jones would like to see another NFL team in TX, much less one where the Cowboy fan base numbers in the 100's of thousands?

I agree with this, and apologize if my "lying bunch of thieves" comment came off as a generalization...it was really pointed at the politicians and a handful of residents that thought they had "earned the right" to keep the team. I have family all over SA, and most people I talked to thought that bringing the Saints to SA would be a stupid move for the city, since the AlamoDome was not a good long-term venue, and because they didn't want to pay for ANOTHER stadium. Some felt that the Saints belonged in New Orleans, period. Others didn't feel that NOLA could support them, but they also didn't think that San Antonio would support them, either.

No, I don't blame the city. It's the only major city in Texas that actually has a unique personality, and I appreciate that. But the politicians and businessmen who were sneaking around and making plans to take the Saints...I have no good feelings towards them. They are the "lying bunch of thieves" I was referring to.

But I still think it's ridiculous that a writer thinks they deserve any credit...they don't. It's a reach if he's serious, it's a lousy joke if he's not.

And besides, we should channel any Texas hate towards Dallas. They deserve it... bandwagon jockey fans, the team, the owner, the stadium of fail, the snotty attitude...all of it. :D

Even after winning the Super Bowl, seeing stuff like that makes me sick.
