Sneaux next week [Historic snowstorm in southeast Louisiana on January 21, 2025] (1 Viewer)

Thinking on this some more ... I'll lay my chips on Saturday, early afternoon. There's a lot of accumulation to clear out -- I can see some icy/snowy nooks and crannies lasting into the weekend. Saturday highs are supposed to be north of 65F, so that will certainly finish off the rest of it.

EDIT: What faceman just said.
Pllease pay close attention to bridges and elevated roadways. They can still have ice with
temps over 32

They need to take these readings again at sunset.

Maybe Gretna close to the river got somewhat less ... but where I'm at on the other side of the Expressway, we're pushing 10 inches. Still snowing, too.

Still snowing here too. And those measurements were taken at 2:00. I would guess they will eventually give out final official numbers soon. I'd guess we probably have around a foot total. But, I'm not exactly sure how they measure it. My garbage cans have like a foot and half on them. But there is a bit less on the ground.

Oof -- you're right.

At least in the NOLA area ... the roads absolutely won't be in shape to drive at any point tomorrow. Assuming we're not getting any plows from anywhere.
While the area can scare up a few snowplows, there is no way all the back roads could be cleared of the ice that will come from the slush that is on the roads now. No doubt a few main highways will be treated with salt and or brine. But fewer will actually be cleared by means of small handful of snowplows that exist in south Louisiana. From what I heard, there has been a company out of Mississippi that was hired to come down to the New Orleans area with a small fleet of plows to help with some of the snow clearing. But they certainly won't be able to clear anything outside of the main roads in order to assist official vehicles and emergency equipment around the city. There's no doubt that some personal vehicles will be venturing where the result could be parking the car sideways in a ditch. :covri:

earlier went to go grab my kids and headed to Keller Library (St Charles - I wore a shirt and a shirt and a fleece and a rain jacket bc it has a hood and I could put it over my hat and a big coat) for some play and pictures

i'd forgotten one of my favorite things about blustery snow - that no matter where you face or direction you take the snow blows in your face - fun

Unless that dude is an essential employee, I have no sympathy. My daughter had to stay overnight at her job (rehab facility) to keep her off the road.
if a business deems you essential, and they don't have a way to let you stay over night and expects you to drive in that, the owner/manager is an idiot.
my wife works at the hospital and essentials are staying, and at the plant i work at, same thing essentials are staying on site..
it seems the ones who make people drive are trying to save a buck while risking their employees lives.. that is terrible management, and if i got into a wreck because i had and ultimatum to come to work, that's lawsuit city..

I'm glad that she will be safe where she is even if it is inconvenient for her. :9:

that's what i'm nervous about - that it actually encourages people to drive
I understand that it helps emergency vehicles, but there were enough cars on Napoleon and Freret without plowed streets
tomorrow will be ... interesting

Looks like it finally stopped in Biloxi. Temps aren't expected to be above 32 until 2 pm Wed, and then it'll
drop below 32 again around 5 pm. It's definitely going to be around for a bit.

Snow has begun.

Seeing what yall got I figure we’re getting some
By 10pm (or sooner) your time it should all turn to a steady snowfall in your area. :9:

But it should pass through a bit quicker than it did down here.
