damn, i am about to cut the grass and there is a snoball stand within walking distance....i know where i am going after...

oh noes. That's my favorite as well. It's the only flavor I ever get, actually. Since I was a kid.

Hansen's owns your face. Acceptable subs in a pinch are Pandora's on Carrollton, The Green House (next to Brother Martin), and Rodney's in the east. I'd say Plum St. Snowballs but if you're that far upriver already, just make the half-mile or so trek to Tchoupitoulas & Bordeaux.

I went Wednesday, and in a rare turn of events there was no line. I wound up ordering the $5.50 size strawberry/grape with crushed pineapples (on the suggestion of a friend, I usually don't do toppings but this was good), staying around reading newspaper clippings and talking with Ashley & Co. The one in the picture is bubblegum/ice cream, which is equally amazing. Rarely do I order the same flavor/combination twice.

No, I'm not on their payroll. I just don't want people to waste time on second-rate snowballs.

Agreed. There are many subpar snoballs in New Orleans. Hanson's is the only one I go to. I suspect that they cook their own syrup with real sugar, which makes a big difference. My aunt used to have the best sno ball stand ever, in Houma. For you Houma guys, it was the "rainbow sno ball" across the street from Super Suds Carwash. She was meticulous to the point of being silly. My great grandmother cooked the syrup for her. Alas, all good things must come to and end.

As for flavor, there is only one. That is coconut. Sometimes, if I'm feeling decadent, I'll get coconut cream.

I had that a few weeks ago at Sal's. Pretty damn good. Also pretty damn good: chocolate w/ condensed milk, spearmint w/ condensed milk, dark cherry w/ condensed milk.

They do (or, She (Ashley) does). Every day. They are also they only snowball with that particluar machine (the machine and their product is actually patented as SnoBliz), invented by Ernest Hansen.
