The biggest home game in franchise history: That’s how this was billed, and here we pause to note that 46 seasons make for a considerable chunk of history. (Almost half a century!) And even if the Falcons entered Monday night’s game against New Orleans with a comfy Plan B — they could lose to the Saints and still win the NFC South and clinch a No. 1 seed by beating Carolina on Sunday — nobody wanted to do it the easy way.

But that, alas, is the way it will have to be. The Falcons tripped over their moment. This isn’t to say they can’t have moments still, but they couldn’t handle this one.

If you’re going to be a champ, you have to show you can beat a champ.

The biggest regular-season game in Falcons annals will go down, sad to say, as a whiff.

Two things I love about that: (1) Our biggest game is our SB victory; the Falcons' biggest game is a regular season loss! Sweet! (2) The Falcons couldn't pull out what would have been a defining win. Instead, the battle tested champions put them back in their place. Time was when the "battle tested champion" was the 49ers and the team playing its most meaningful game in a regular season tilt was the Saints. These aren't your grandpa's Saints anymore, but Atlanta is still the same old Failclowns!

I think Will Smith was held this play.....but for some reason it just wasn't seen....along with the rest of the holding all night...

In fairness, he said "biggest regular season" -- they did play in a Super Bowl, which is the loss that has to be their biggest...much more disappointing! :)
