Spencer Rattler switches to #2 jersey number

Odd… not sure why he wouldn’t have just used #2 last year. I guess he may be trying to do some subtle National Treasure style clue dropping about his future in the league:

- 18 in year 1.
- 2 in year 2.
- 18 divided by 2 equals 9. 1 plus 2 equals 3.
- in year 3 play like number 9 so that in year 4 he can lead the team to the SB just like Drew did!!!

I just figured it out. Place your Vegas bets now for the 2027 Saints to win it all.
This reminds me of Cartman’s 9/11 theory:

I'm encouraged by 2 8 and 3 occurrences in a SB conversation. Good juju imo.

I had a pet theory that Chris Olave had dibs on the number but needed to wait a year for some league rules purpose; interesting that this sudden availability of the number coincides with the day we signed Cooks, a WR with a similar skill set.

Probably just all a coincidence.
Funny you say that.

This is pure speculation by me but the first thing that popped into my mind when we signed Cooks was Chris Olave’s brother and the hospital ball tweets right after his brothers injury.

We have a first year young coach. How better to stamp your authority on a team than shipping someone out who is perceived to be a star for something that could be perceived as detrimental to the team?

Cooks kind of is an older version of Olave. So you Would have a replacement.

The flip side of this is Olave wants out and we are going to give him his wish and/or because of the concussions he intends to retire.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. Is Cooks coming in purely as depth or is there something else going on here?

Would also be full circle as Payton shipped Stallworth out iirc as well. Think he did the same with Horn.

Yeah I think we have a tough situation brewing there, with the deadline for us to make the call on his fifth year option looming, which I doubt we give him because of the inherent risk.

If we are going to move him, now would probably be the time.

Exactly the same principal. It’s an easy way to grab control. Olave is likely not going to want to stick around past his rookie contract if Carr is still around. I am sure his brother is his own person but he likely didn’t just say what he said in a vacuum. I am sure Olave shares his sentiments to an extent and that’s fine there is plenty of teams that need a WR and plenty of WR’s for us to draft.

Your career is short so go be happy and make the most of it.

💯 agree.

That’s the only thing that makes Cooks at that much money make sense. We paid a lot for something we already have. The pursuit of Kupp too the two of them do what Olave does for much less. My bet is it’s a combo of our doctors told us his head is at risk every time he plays now so we need an expensive replacement and/or we are moving him so we need an expensive replacement.
