We've had some nickel-sized purplish spots on our kitchen wall for sometime now. It started out as two of them about 8 inches apart. Now there is one on each side of the original ones, about 6 inches away. And then another is forming in between on each side but up a couple inches. The spacing is very uniform as is the size of the spots. On the other side of this wall is our laundry room. The breaker box is installed there. Any ideas what this might be? The house was built after Katrina but I don't think it's Chinese drywall as we don't have a sulfur smell or corroded wires.

Sounds like signs of a dtradin infestation. Hide the blender.

Or, the blueberries.

FYI, putting very hot blueberries into a blender will cause purple spots on your walls, ceilings, clothes and cabinets. Typically, spots are not uniform so I suggest you lick the ones in your kitchen to see if they really are yummy blueberry flavored spots from an exploding blender.

Sounds like the screws/screw holes. Not sure why they are turning purple. Take a small nail and tap it into the spots and see if there are indeed screws in each one. Could be rusting screws maybe?

Should be fairly easy to fix. Scratch out the spots and apply drywall compund with a putty knife and repaint. You have any pics?

Its very likely that its the black screws holding up the plaster board and through time they jut out slightly and depending on the colour of paint on the wall they can create a fant look of discolouring

Hmmm.. Interesting thought. I'll try that out.

I was wondering if the breaker panel could have anything to do with it. The spots seem to line up pretty well with some screws in the panel.

I'll try to get a pic or two tomorrow when I get home.

I don't know. Looks like a definite coloration of the wall. I actually wipe it away with a Mr. Clean eraser bar and they re-appeared.

Lol. :hihi:

That sucks dude. How were the cocktails?

Post a picture. If they're regular and line up, it's something to do with the screws and they should be on 16" intervals. If you've got a moisture problem and your house is pretty new and the area is in a wet area, it could be leaching of color from purple drywall board, but that's a long list of ifs.

This is your answer. You've got moisture in there, which is causing the screws to oxidize. You could just hit it with some Kilz, and stop the coloration from bleeding through, but that won't stop the mold from growing under the sheetrock. Get in there and hit it with bleach, after you've solved your moisture issue.
