Still feels odd to me that we have opened up so much cap space (25 Viewers)

No I have not seen that one. I’d be very surprised.
I think it's kind of speculation by Breer. I think he's just saying that Carr actually wanted to go and that as long as Carr feels that way, there is a chance the Saints could trade him even after the restructure. It appears that Moore decided he wanted to keep him and did not want to cut or trade him while Carr was more than open to the idea.

I think it's highly unlikely to happen now since Moore does want him and it would be tough to pay a guy $40 million not to play for your team. But, we might be able to get a good draft pick for him since all the new team would have to pay is his base salary for the year and even Underhill said that Carr is willing to waive his no trade clause to play for the right team.

All in all it's a sheetty situation but not for the reasons we might have thought. It's not a good thing paying $40 million to a starting QB that doesn't want to be here. I think Carr for all his faults, is a pro and will play to his potential despite not wanting to be here. But you would obviously rather have a starting QB that wants to be here than not.

And it also turn out that while people were overly nasty about Carr not being here for the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras, it likely was a sign that he wanted to go to a new team.

He made a contradictory statement unless I'm reading something wrong.

First he says:

Then in detail he say:

So I'm not really sure what he's trying to say there? To me it makes no sense to trade him after you just guaranteed paying his 30mil salary. I would only see that if Carr refuses to play unless they trade him. Sounds like a lot of nothing and he just typed a headline to grab attention and nothing was really behind it.

Thought the same exact thing. The story contradicts itself. Just seems like idle speculation to fill the piece.

I read it as Derek Carr had not resolved his side of the talks and dispute yet so Albert is saying it is possible things could change. The Saints didn't consult with Carr in restructuring. It was completely unilateral (as was their right). I inferred that Albert is suggesting it's possible that Carr is so disillusioned he will push to be traded. That is just a guess on Albert's part.

They tried to talk to Carr about a pay cut but he refused and it sounds like he indicated that he would like to be cut or traded or at least that he would be open to it. But Moore decided he wanted him as his QB so they did the standard restructure.

Right. I think Albert is just speculating that until they hear from Carr's camp that he's in and rolling with the Saints, something could possibly happen.

Agreed. I think it would take Carr refusing to play or holding out before they would trade him in these circumstances. And, while I think it's true he would rather not be here, I don't think he would hold out or refuse to play.

Maybe.

It doesn't really matter though, considering the extra cap you have rolls into next year. It may be future planned deals, it maybe be a budget plan that doesn't get filled or it may be a deal that fell through (like Ward). Again, it doesn't really matter as long as you have enough room to function this year. Any extra space will get passed to next year like you never restructured if you don't use it.
You have a brand new staff and brand new schemes. That’s a lot roster change that needs to happen. Plus you want to give your new coaches some players that give them confidence that their plan will work. Godshaux and Reid (34 NT and a great safety) are bookend pieces to our new D. We will still need at least two more starting DBs considering we’ll run 5 at the same time 70% of the time. And we need an elite DT that stop the run and get to the passer. On O: we need at least two starting interior Olineman and one with the ability to play center at a high level a big WR. (Elite jump ball winning play making dawg). This at a minimum. With the draft you want elite difference makers. BPA most likely. At 9 draft a generational RB/TE /WR /QB/DT/DE.

I'm not up to date on penalties for holding out, but does it matter that the vast majority of his compensation for 2025 is roster bonus so he would not forfeit it if he did hold out? I'm curious what leverage he would have, if any, should he really want out that bad. I do agree with your take though. I think he would rather move on, but wouldn't refuse to play. He will be professional.

I don’t understand why we need to hear from Carr. Aside from the typical social media chatter box type guys (which Carr generally isn’t) most of these restructurees have been quiet.

We aren’t seeing any press conferences from guys that have been restructured and hardly anyone is talking about much of anything. We haven’t heard from like 95% of the roster yet on how they feel about Moore.

I do think Carr understandably has grown a dislike for the city/fans with the way he’s been treated, and he knows anything he says will just be met with more backlash, so he’s laying low just like virtually everyone else is this time of year.

I don't disagree. Maybe Breer and others have reached out to Carr's agent and it's been radio silent so it's an odd situation. I don't know. There just seems to be something there that is strange about the situation, or Breer is just trying to stir trouble.

You may be right. My only question is why would this specific trade have to wait till 4pm but the Godchaux trade didn’t?

What would be the factors in that?

Good question. Maybe it just hasn’t been leaked yet. Kind of when that Jimmy Graham bomb dropped on us years ago right at the start of the league year.

Every year it seems like a handful of under the radar transactions get announced as soon as they can officially be processed.

If the last few years are to be viewed as a blueprint, we generally have only restructured guys once we have the services of a respective free agent we want to sign secured.

I’ve never seen us basically max out the restructures ahead of time.

I really wonder if we have a trade getting ready to be processed at 4 pm today.
To me if feels like ML will never commit to a full rebuild, unless it’s mandatory to do so. This would’ve been a good opportunity, but I also feel like he most likely made some promises to KM about being competitive. A part of me is ok with a rebuild for obvious reasons to start anew, but the other part feels like we can still make some waves in this division that will welcome a new team as the champion of the division.

Caleb Williams , Trevor Lawrence and Drake Maye have all made public comments about working with their new head coach. It probably means nothing, but the radio silence seems a little odd.

The posturing on both sides has been weird going back to before Moore was hired. Carr's unsolicited comments on a pay cut, followed immediately with stories on how much the organization likes Rattler...it's just different. Again, probably meaningless.

Did you see/read the article by Albert Breer about the Saints and Carr? Its a pretty interesting read and take. Basically, even with the Carr re-structure, there appears to still be some rumblings behind the scenes that Carr playing NO in 2025 is not set in stone and they COULD trade him. It would be an after June 1 trade IF it were to happen. I'll see if I can find it.

Rumblings by whom? It doesn't seem to be coming from the HC unless it's behind the scenes. And I don't think it matters if it comes from anywhere else.
