NFL Sunday Wild card playoffs [Merged] (4 Viewers)

With the new kickoff rule, penalties on kickoffs don’t make a difference. The kicker would be kicking at the 50, but the coverage teams would be at the same place as normal and would still have to wait for the kick to come down in the landing area.
This needs to be looked at in the offseason IMHO. A 15 yard defensive personal foul right as or after the opposing offense scores a TD doesn't seem like enough punishment if it's only (a) kicker tries the XP from halfway closer to the goal or (b) offense goes for 2 from the 1 instead of the 2.

About 5 years ago, a team's defense (I think Tampa) committed a 15 yard personal foul against the Saints on a TD scoring play, Payton elected under the the old kickoff rules to kick from the 50, and the Saints managed to recover some kind of weird non-offsides kickoff for an extra possession. But without that fear, why not commit a dirty hit on Jayden Daniels' knee, assuming you have no integrity and your coach encourages that kind of thing?

I think this is going to turn out to be the best game of the weekend amidst those other clunkers.
I think we’ll see much more competitive matchups next weekend.
