This past Sunday Taysom Hill returned to the Saints lineup from injury, and he immediately made an impact. On the 1st offensive snap Hill made a block, sealing his man off on the outside opening up a gaping hole for Alvin Kamara to run through. Kamara ripped off a 23 yard run. That was the longest run for Kamara since 2022. It was his 1st run of 20 plus yards since 2022. And with that said, it was his longest run of 2024.
On Hills 1st carry he bullied his way for an 8-yard gain. Unfortunately, that drive stalled after his run because the line couldn't block enough for Kamara to pick up the 1st down on back-to-back interior runs on 2nd and 2 and 3rd and 2.
Hill looked fresh and quick. He also resumed his role on Special Teams. As the up man personal punt protector, he covered kicks for the Punt Team. He also resumed his role on the Punt Return Team as a rusher.
On the Chargers 2nd possession, they were forced to punt from deep in their own territory. An errant snap to the right of the Punter forced him to retreat into the endzone to retrieve the ball.
Taysom was on him like white on rice and while making the tackle Hill punched the ball from the Punters hands.
It was almost recovered by Willie Gay for a Saints TD but he and a Chargers player collied and knocked the ball out of bounds.
On that play Taysom was credited with a tackle for loss, a forced fumble, and causing a safety.
Add that play and those stats to his already unique list of accomplishments as a Saint.
Another notch in Hills Belt!

The snap was extremely errant, and Hill pursued Chargers punter JK Scott, who was trying to recover the ball as it moved toward the end zone.
By the time Scott was able to pick the ball up, he had both feet in the end zone, and Hill was ready to tackle him.
Instead of focusing solely on the tackle though, Hill punched the ball out of Scott’s grasp, and it began rolling toward the side of the end zone.
Hassan Haskins of the Chargers and Willie Gay Jr. of the Saints pursued the ball, but it got knocked out of the end zone.
All in that one play, Hill was Credited with a Forced Fumble and a Tackle For Loss.

Hill didn’t score in the game, but he finished with 21 receiving yards on two catches, 20 rushing yards on four carries and completed his only pass attempt for three yards — his first pass attempt this season.
At first glance Hills stat line in the Chargers game wasn't something that would jump off the page and impress anyone. However, the uniqueness of it does. It's just that as Saints fans we have become very accustomed to it.
This may have been the first time in NFL History that a player threw and completed at least one pass, caught at least 2 passes for at least 20 receiving yards, rushed for at least 20 yards while averaging at least 5.0 yards per attempt, breaking at least one tackle, while having at least one solo tackle, having a tackle for a loss, having a forced fumble, and causing a safety by the opponent, all in the same game.
I don't have access to the data to confirm this but maybe somebody else does. If one of the local media guys lurks here and sees this maybe they can validate it.
Congrats to Taysom Hill for making another great play for the Saints!
