TE Juwan Johnson re-signed to 3-year deal (9 Viewers)

Underhill said today in his podcast that he read where TE is the position that HC say " I can get more out of that guy" than any other position. The fact that CKM called JJ and wanted him to stay is proof that he has a vision for JJ . HIs contract is pretty much in line for his production, add into that we would have had a 6 mil cap hit if we let him go. Also there was not much out there as far as FA TE go. I'm fine with resigning him.

Now that does not mean we won't draft Warren but it means that we won't HAVE to draft a TE high in the draft

Nice little write up. Shows why CKM was so respected by his players in Philly and that JJ has the right mindset.

So both of his top offensive coaches (Payton and Kubiak) wanted him as a free agent, as did his new head coach after studying him. I think that speaks volumes about the film he has put out.

Also there is a good chance that it is a statement regarding his opinion of Carr.
Assuming the money was similar, he passed on the opportunity to play for Sam Darnold or Bo Nix. I'm not saying they are good buddies, but if JJ absolutely did not like or respect Carr he would be a Bronco or Seahawk IMO

It’s pretty much an extension for cap purposes from the $6.5 million void year cap number. Its really like 8 mil a year.

Johnson’s 2025 6.5m void yr cap hit will be lowered to around 3m, or possibly lower, in year 1 since he’s not signing elsewhere.
The Saints pretty much force themselves into these types of contracts. It like they are using high APR credit card for all of their purchases. Just make it end

I like hearing CKM with a vision for players. That means we aren't just randomly signing guys, he has a vision for the players being signed.

"To be totally honest, it makes me happy but it also makes me upset, because I don't want to just be a guy that's used when guys are (injured)," he said. "That's the one thing I'm going to work on this season, is putting a complete season together where from start to finish, nobody can tell whether he came on late or he came on early.
I hope the team utilizes him this year. His production spiked in 2022 when Thomas was shutdown, and again in 2023 when Thomas reinjured himself. Last year again once the WR's went down. Why we keep waiting until the cupboard is empty to utilize him is beyond me. Hopefully Moore recognizes him as an ascending talent cable of being a go to option in the offense and utilizes him that way from start to finish as long as he's available.

I guess we can chalk it up to terrible coaching prior to. Because what you say make perfect sense, however seems common sense for a HC.
