Terron Armstead...is he gone? (1 Viewer)

The only reason he's been at RT is because we had Armstead. Ram gives us stability at LT.

The only reason is because....Armstead....what does that tell you about Armstead?

If the NFL were the real world, TA would owe the Saints a lot of time because of all the sick days he took. He owes us about an entire season of games!

This is a moronic statement, the guy has had an extensive injury history, sure, everyone knows that, the last 2 years before this one he missed a total of 3 games. He has also played in games (way less than 100%) that a lot of other players wouldn't IMO....Dude is a warrior, that real Saints fans will hate to see leave the team...

Teams around the league will follow the Bengals example and try to assemble a Oline of Free Agents on a young team.

WTF? Are you serious? The Bengals example? Their offensive line is terrible, probably will be the reason they don't go far in the playoffs. Burrow has been sacked and hit more than any other QB in 2021, if they don't upgrade that offensive line soon, he will have another season ending injury next year....

Am I the only person who assumed we gave Peat all that money so he would agree to wait and slide over to LT when we let Armstead walk?

Peat is a very serviceable LT, he's proven that. He is much better at LT than he is guard.

I'm not sure what the market is, but would the money he got as a guard be about league average for a LT (which I would say he is).

He's gonna get close to top dollar market in FA, I don't know if we can afford to re-sign him. Durability is another thing.

he (or his agent) apparently refused some of what we wanted to do reworking contracts and freeing cap this year. That and the fact that he can't make it through a season indicates to me they do intend to move on.

Interesting. I was wondering why they never reworked his deal to extend him and create cap space when we were doing that early and late in the year. If he/his agent refused then it certainly seems to indicate that he at least wants to test free agency and see if he can get a big deal and/or the deal we were offering reflected his age/injury history and was not the big pay day he was hoping for. I suspect at his age, Armstead wants that last big pay day which will result in him costing more than we are willing to pay.

I don't know if he's gone, but i know if he returns it'll have to be at a significantly reduced rate.

Which is why I would expect the Bengals to make a big offer to Armstead.

like 3 or 4 weeks into the season the rumor floated that the Saints would hear trades and/or let him walk/test market. It also came out that week that he and his agent had refused to rework the contract for cap space (probably mean the Saints intentionally leaked the first bit). At any rate, I don't remember who the source was but there is some smoke that suggested to me they may indeed both be done with each other. I think his availability severely cramps his desire for that last big pay day but I can't blame him given its likely his last in football. We shall see.

We need the better player at LT. Ram is a natural LT and is getting paid like one. The only reason he's been at RT is because we had Armstead. Ram gives us stability at LT.

Pencil Hurst in at RT and maybe we draft an OT in the first or second round who beats him out. Hurst is not a long-term solution for us wherever we put him. I think he gets replaced this year or next.

I hear you about the better player at LT. But I’d argue that RT is Ram’s natural position as he has now played 5 professional seasons at that spot, whereas he only played two seasons in college at LT.

The problem I have always had with he and Peat (more so with Peat) is that it seems like they collectively miss an average of 3-5 games every season. When that happens the OL then becomes musical chairs as everyone gets shuffled around. If Armstead is ranked as a 10 when healthy, but oft-injured...I would rather have a 7-8 who stays healthy.

ESPN+ just released their top 50 FA's for 2022 today...
#2 OVERALL was Armstead!
I also see that Spotrac is estimating his market value at:
  • 4 yrs, $95,820,796
  • Avg. Salary: $23,955,199
  • NFL Rank: 16
  • LT Rank: 1
If he didn't have his injury history, he's worth it. But, considering injuries, I'd have a hard time justifying that number.

If that's the number then we kind of have to let him go given his injury history. I mean, in addition to that salary you have to add the salary of a good backup for the games he is very likely to miss. That being said, that number is a guess by ESPN. I could see a desperate team offering that, but it's not a lock that one will.
