N/S Texans fire OC Bobby Slowik (2 Viewers)

I remember watching Stroud last year and I wasn't too particular impressed by the offense. So, the film tape really caught up to both Stroud and Slowik

This.

I think Stroud is really good. But Slowik had a massive problem with gametime adjustments. He was forced into them a lot this year and they struggled no matter how they were getting beat, he didn't change hardly anything to counter it. It seemed a lot like "oh, we're getting pressured, lets just run the ball more". "Oh, they have 9 in the box, lets pass next".

I think he was scapegoated. They invested heavily in that offense this past season and the payoff wasn't there due to several different reasons but mostly due to injuries throughout the year to their skilled players.

That doesn't give any explanation to the amount of pressure that Stroud faced constantly nearly every game. We're not talking about him holding the ball for 3+ seconds waiting for WR's to get open. We're talking the ball is snapped and someone is already pressuring Stroud.

And nothing changed at all in scheme or even much in play calling to mitigate that all season long which is quite literally one of the defining jobs of an offensive coordinator.

Dang, the Texans are not playing around. They know that they have talent. Have to get the most out of that talent while they can

Even with all of the injuries, I think they still did pretty good. 10-7 record and got to the Divisional round. That’s admirable

Give it 2-3 years and Houston firing Bobby Slowik will look like one of the dumbest moves an NFL team has made in the last decade. Completely illogical move by a franchise that is clearly ghost-chasing.

The Texans made the playoffs in consecutive seasons without a lot of talent. I like the guy. I think the Saints should absolutely interview him for Head Coach. He probably has a big chip on his shoulder. Might also come cheap.

Doesn’t matter, there’s no salary cap on coaches
