The Annunaki were supposed to have been here to collect gold that they allegedly wanted in order to restore their atmosphere. I believe that it was the ancient Sumerians who believed that humans were created by the annunaki to mine the gold for them. Humans, it is said, revolted and were wiped out by a great flood and then recreated but with a large portion of their brains unusable so that they would not be mentally equal to the annunaki.

Perhaps we should figure out how to use our gold.
