The Argument for a Stealth Head Coach Candidate (6 Viewers)

You mean, the A-A-Ron Rodgers that went awol, locked himself in a cave, and smoked crack?……I mean binged on mushrooms? Yeah, I would definitely take that guy’s side. Maybe, as a leader of a team, you try not to intentionally create a mutiny. Sure, philosophies can grow stale, however, if you have a perennial MVP QB at the helm, maybe he could do more?!?! I didn’t see Drew mailing it in, when he was throwing to a group of UDFAs. Just saying

Maybe, just maybe MM wasn’t the problem

Also, what is your definition of dominant?
Bc dominant, to me, is when you lay waste to all of your competition. I don’t see how the Packers have done that? Consistent yes, dominant no

You're right dominant is subjective. The Packers seem to be one of the top 6 best teams in the NFL currently. The only teams they lost to were all in the divisional round of the playoffs (I think? Just going off memory). That to me is a dominate team. Especially when you're beating teams that good. Teams that regularly compete for the superbowl (unlike any team McCarthy has coached for the last 7 years).

And I'm not taking Rodgers side. But I'm not going to ignore an entire group of complaints of MM's coaching ability that came from front office officials and other players anonymously. That's way to much smoke for there to be no fire. Rodgers is a nut case. But I find it hard to believe he had enough control in the front office and the locker room to form an MM lynch mob when Lafleur quite literally just waltzed in the front office one day and had Rodgers moving on. This is the Packers, who have quite literally been one of the best running franchises for a few decades now. Unlike the Jets, where Rodgers did get his way, but let's not act like the Jets have been anything remotely close to well run in the last 20+ years.

No matter who the Saints hire, there will still be naysayers that will not approve of the hire.. The new coach coming in will have a monumental task of trying to put together a competitive team with an aging roster and a horrendous cap situation. At the moment, I don't know who could do this.

The Chiefs are the only team that I view as dominant. Mainly, for their championship pace they have been on.
Don’t underestimate the power that some players have with a FO. Regardless, if an organization is well run, superstar players, especially QBs have a lot of pull.

I’ve been led to conclude that some Saints fans want Joe Brady here in 2025 (LSU) and Arch Manning to be his franchise QB, drafted in 2026 (New Orleans/Newman).

Just get the local guys, that’ll fix everything, seems to be the path according to some. It’ll at least make rooting easier. Can’t say it guarantees success because that’s not how competition works but there will be happier people.

There are only about 4 or 5 really aging guys and the cap can be reset in two years. It's not that dire of a situation. If for no other reason any franchise can be turned around in 2 years with good drafting and good coaching.

I wouldn't bet on the happier people part. :)

What's a stealth HC? A McVay type?

Ain't too many of those are in the league now.

I think McCarthy can get the Saints back to competing for the division, but I'm not sure if they could reach a higher ceiling.

We'll see

Saints only had one pro bowl player on the roster and could only produce 5 wins. They matched the Panthers this season That's bad. Sure, they had injuries but so does other clubs. The roster is full of players that wouldn't start on other teams. We let players like Baun walk and he was a beast this year. It maybe considered not dire to some but this is a professional franchise that is moving backwards and the fingers are pointed towards Loomis. Moving on, it can be fixed but the current status is bad or whatever word you would like to use.

They also had a terrible HC. Either DA was a bad coach or he wasn't. If you really think this team only had the talent to win 5 games then you have to believe that DA wasn't a bad HC. I think DA was a bad head coach and this team is better than a 5 win team. They are an 8 or 9 win team with a good HC. And, like I said, any team is 2 years away from being good with good drafting and a good HC.

What I like about the Packers (and part of the reason for liking McCarthy) is that they build and maintain their roster through the draft. They averaged nine picks per year during McCarthy’s tenure. Hopefully he would bring that organizational philosophy to the Saints if hired.
That is a great point! My hope for Mike being the next coach just got even bigger lol.

I think it’s been way more dire back in the old days. Having said that I do believe that this is the least talented roster we’ve had in a very very long time. I do not mean that as a shot, just how I see it as a fan who’s watched 45 years. For me, I’d have to go back to the Ditka days to see as little talent.

No shade at Cam or DD, or even Mathieu. They were studs, uber talented, Father Time is undefeated. We have a lot more Foskey’s than we do good players imo.

I think both are true. DA is a bad head coach and we are pretty bare in the cupboard.

Agreed wholeheartedly on your last point. And if you draft a stud QB it’s a one year turnaround as we see with the Skin Commanders.

Dont understand why Todd Monken's name isn't on the radar

He’ll be 59 next year with no HC experience. He doesn’t fit the young maverick or experienced program builder categories that teams seem to be looking for.

Also, his best performance has come with one of the best QB’s in the league, no one else with a vacancy has anyone resembling Jackson on their roster.

This is the least talented roster that we have had in a long time, but we did have some really good rosters in the past. Anway, I think this is a mediocre roster. It's not good and it's not terrible. We don't have enough playmakers on either side of the ball to be a good team, but good coaching and reasonable roster management can get you to 8 or 9 wins. And if you hit on some draft picks you are back in the 10 win range. I mean the first two games of this year may have been a bit of a mirage and they aren't close to actually being that good, but I think they at least show that when healthy, this is a solid roster that can win with good coaching and health when things go right. They were even close to Philly and Washington despite the coaching issues and lots of injuries against Washington. Most of DAs career was a study in how to lose close games.

I'm not fully confident that we can draft well enough to do that, but I do think an experienced guy like McCarty would assure you that you have good coaching and he might help with picking the right talent in the draft.
