The bittersweet of the last preseason game (1 Viewer)

I understand it's been a dream for them. Playing in the NFL is like hitting the lottery, it just doesn't happen to most folks.
The good news is most of them have a college degree and can now use it to get better paying jobs.

Football is just a game.

Sadly, only 42% of players actually have earned degrees. Some will back and try to complete their’s
 
I used to say those not making the cut "would be selling shoes in the mall next week" but with the demise of many malls and storefront retailers, I asked my son today what would be an appropriate updated analogy. He suggested Wal-Mart greeter. Is that the best we can come up with?

True, but the average for a player to last in the NFL is 3.3 years. With the exception of a few very lucky and very good players a career of playing a game is not what most of them are looking forward to.
