I think Davenport was the worst draft pick since correction:Jonathan Sullivan (not Sedrick Ellis). Cost us 2 first round picks, Trey Hendrickson and had to use another 1st for Turner after it looked like it wasn't working out. Set our D line back years in terms of developing new talent.

Spilled milk, tears.

You can't live in the past.

Wasted energy.

For the 10th millionth time, they didn’t pick between the two. Trey was a free agent and the Saints couldn’t afford to match the offer the Bengals gave him

Just came here to say the same thing.

And Davenport was going into year 2 of his rookie deal

There was never a Davenport or Hendrickson decision for Christ's sake

Going into Hendrickson's walk year, 2020, Davenport was already the starter.
If Hendrickson had done anything in his previous 3 seasons he likely would have been part of the long term plan, maybe even restructured by that point.
Perhaps we don't even draft Davenport if Hendrickson had shown serious flashes in 2017.

But as it was going into 2020, Davenport was more established with a combined 10.5 sacks and 43 Pressures in 2018 and 2019 with three years left on his contract while Hendrickson was in the final year of his contract and had a combined 4.5 Sacks and 27 Pressures in 2018 and 2019.
It is not that hard to figure out what the FO was thinking heading into 2020.

If Hendrickson had put together another solid year that season, I'm sure the team would've tried to sign him to a PJ Williams-esque contract.
He simply outplayed their expectations and the amount of money the Saints could pay him that off-season.

Just proves that everything Sean Payton touched didn’t turn into gold when he was here. Anyway I’ve always believed it is a mistake to give two number ones for any player. The only time they probably should have done it they didn’t…..think Mahomes.

I’ve told you a million times not to exaggerate!

You’re correct, Hendrickson had played his way to a big payday and the Saints couldn’t afford him

I think the Saints actually chose Marcus Williams over Hendrickson because the idea was that even though Williams had been tagged, they would have to pay him eventually - and they couldn't afford both of them.

In the end, same result. Should have picked Trey, but I understood why they did what they did at the time.
