Why was Tom Brady taken in the 6th round (IIRC),
This might go against normal conventional thinking of today but he really wasn't that good coming out of college..lol. And he was nothing groundbreaking the year they won that first Super Bowl but he was allowed to grow into that role and he got better year by year. We look at it through the lens of today and a 20 plus year career but believe me, nobody back then was thinking Tom Brady would be who is was today. Who knows what would have been if Bledsoe didn't get injured.

Brady was fortunate to be at the right place at the right time.

Hey Dan enjoy good football write ups. Whats your opinion on his lack of physicality and play strenght. Easy to see how he can uncover in the internediate and deep level.im concerned when teams be physical with him and physical corners can take aways his impact. A little pessimistic with all the capital we used for this kinda player.
Not worried at all.

With the Torry Holt comparison, do you see a resemblance in the leap the 1999 St. Louis Rams made to the 2022 New Orleans Saints with a catapulted offense? 1999 Rams acquired Holt in the first round, traded for Marshall Faulk unearthed Kurt Warner to mix with existing pro bowl wide receiver Isaac Bruce and Az-Zhair Hakim in the slot. The 2022 Saints due to past injuries and offseason acquisitions have Olave in the Holt role, Kamara as Faulk, Winston as Warner, Thomas as Bruce, and Landry as Hakim.

I'm good with that so long as Landry doesn't drop the ball.

Following that logic, why were Pierre Thomas, Wil Lutz, Tony Romo, John Randle, and a slew of others UDFA’s?

Why was Tom Brady taken in the 6th round (IIRC), and Maques Colston in the 7th?

Top talent isn’t always recognized right away.

Glad the Saints had Olave as their #1 guy, and had sense enough to move up to get him. 🤔

:gosaints:
Thats not the same. There wasn’t anyone before the draft that said they knew Brady would be the best qb in that draft.

So, if this is the case, why was he the 3rd WR taken in the draft? Do London and Wilson have attributes that are better fits for their teams and if so what, or are the Jets and Failclowns just idiots?

There's no hive mind when it comes to talent evaluation. The correlation between draft order and "who is the best at _____ position" gets bucked literally every year in more than place.

That said, saying someone is the best pure wide receiver does not mean he is the best weapon, has the highest ceiling, is the most versatile, the most dangerous... Pick an adjective. If a team wanted a big body, Olave wasn't the guy. If someone wanted a dominant RAC wr, Olave wasnt the guy.

He is the best PURE WR in the class. That means he runs the best routes, is the smoothest, and displays a really broad and deep understanding of the position. You can't really split hairs over draft order and decide who was an idiot and who was smart. Randy Moss was drafted 21st. Jerry Rice was 16th (also the 3rd wr to be taken off the board). That's arguably the 2 best WRs to ever play the game, period, who weren't even the first at their own position taken.

Kind of like us picking Michael Thomas in the second when there were like 5 pick in the first that turned out to be mediocre or bust

Great find/post Coach Dan.

I see this stuff… then scratch my head that Vegas has the Saints at 7.5 on the over/under for wins in the 2022/23 season.

That line will probably shoot up to 9.5 by the first preseason game. 🤔 💵

Doubtful. Vegas doesn't trust Winston or Dennis Allen. That line will hold firm unless something really strange happens.

I mean, on paper there is definitely some parallels, especially when you consider the similarities between Faulk and Kamara (though Faulk was still playing in the pre-RB platooning era). But we'll just have to see when everyone hits the field.
