The Old Lady still Looks Great (3 Viewers)

Yep.

How’s the car burglary around the Dome area now? If I read correctly it’s picked up in the last few years. Hopefully they got it under control.

They supposedly made a few arrests earlier last year.

The location is as critical to its longevity as any remodeling.

I remember when there was “talk” of building a new stadium across the river and i just thought how dumb that would be.
If they would ever get a new stadium, it would have to be the Vikings situation where they play two or three seasons at LSU and build it directly where the Dome is.
That lane is just too valuable.

It should also be noted Poydras Street and most of the office towers along Poydras were built after the Dome was situated on the land it occupies. The Dome changed New Orleans and created an economic boom downtown.

It was high oil prices in the 1970s that did the most booming for downtown NOLA, but having the Superdome anchor a recently-widened Poydras St. probably helped cement it as CBD's high-rise corridor.

Much to the chagrin of whoever thought building Plaza Tower at Loyola and Howard was a good idea.

There’s a lot of crap the city and state take for how they do things, crime, street maintenance, politics, etc. But both the building of the Dome and then the budgeting of the maintenance is one they got right. It’s certainly something to be proud of and something that is financially worth the investment.

I just don't EVER remember Plaza Tower building being anything viable.

Its near future:

The plan to hide it during the Super Bowl:

The city and state seem to do crime just fine
:run:

Still beautiful after all these years!

I don't see the need for to build a new stadium anytime soon.
If the Superdome is structurally sound, maintained properly and upgraded when needed...it could last several more decades.
The only things I would like to see is a way to open the roof when the weather is nice and a system to bring in natural grass.

I'm old enough to remember the Saints at Tulane stadium in the early years. I also remember going to the Astrodome in the early 60's and then later going to my first game in the SuperDome where I was totally awed by the size difference between the Astrodome and the Superdome. It seemed like you could fit 2 Houston Domes inside our signiture Sports Stadium. IMO it remains so even today due to the continued upgrades.
