Does anyone here have a side hustle? If so, what is it and why did you decide to do it? (I have a lot of questions, but this goes hand in hand with Retirement Is A Pipe Dream). I could ramble here about living in one of the country's more expensive areas, etc., etc., but lately, I have been thinking of ways to "retire" even if it means taking a job at Home Depot or something.

Welcome to the age of the side hustle, where Americans are increasingly devoted to finding extra money to spend. More than a third of U.S adults — and nearly half of millennials and Gen Z — now have a second stream of income, according to a survey published Wednesday by financial services company Bankrate.

I like to think of it more as " i cant sit still" in retirement type thing. Many are so programmed to work hard that retirement ( in the sense of not working ) doesnt appeal to me. Slowing it down, but still doing something with my day is what i most likely will end up doing and if im getting paid to do it, even better.

I still have about 12 years before retirement, so i really dont know what i would want to do. I would love to remain in my field ( insurance ) but not many openings for a 65 yr old licensed agent on the sales side. So maybe consulting type work ( risk management ). However, 12 more years may scar me to the point that i want a clean break fro the 40+ year career in this industry and i may decide to do landscaping ( i do really enjoy that - design, planting etc ) of some sort.

or i may end up w/ you at Lowes or HD telling Gen Z how to unclog a drain or replace a recessed light. lol

i have routinely thought of a side hustle- the landscaping part- but i am so busy during the week, that i would only be available weekends, and i really dont want to spend my weekends working from 8am to 5pm. I do sometimes help out my BiL who has a landscape company when needed, usually 2-4 hrs and he will toss me $100 or so ( and i really would rather him keep his $$$ due to the physical nature of what he does every day ) but it is nice to have some pocket cash.

I've looked into a few things over the years. Here's a link with some suggestions. I'm not advocating the site, just the ideas.

I'd even consider something like secret shopper. Met a guy who works out of the coffee shop across the street. He gave up law to sell books. He travels all over searching for rare books to resell. That travel is tax deductible if I understand correctly.

Good luck
