I remember when All Star Weekend was a big deal.
ESPN would send out their crews and all the live shows were branded as “Live From All Star Weekend.”
And it doesn’t seem they do that anymore.
If anything, interest in All Star Weekend has dramatically decreased since i started watching basketball in the early to mid 00s.
I was talking with a friend and we kinda agreed that putting ASW directly a week after the Super Bowl has hurt ASW.
Back when the Super Bowl was late January, it felt that February belonged to ASW.
And no one is talking about this aspect.

I'd blame the players. The game is not even watchable and the stars won't do the other events. I read this article earlier on CBS Sports:

It would more interesting if instead of basketball, the players play football for the all star game and in return, they play basketball for the pro bowl game.

Question from a non-hockey fan... Is it typical for the refs to just stand there and watch them throw blows until someone falls?
The refs, the 2 guys w the orange armbands, don’t get involved at all, other than keeping guys from committing a “3rd man in” situation.

The two linesmen will let the fight go until the participants are spent or one participant appears injured. Generally if a hockey player knows he has gotten the better of his opponent (bloodied nose, lost teeth, impending unconsciousness) they’ll back off.

As a side, how’d this end up in the Pels thread?

As the Gulf of Mexico/America situation has shown us, anything can be done in the name of progress.

Yes. Just part of the game. Also, it's safer for the refs to intervene when both players tire themselves out.
Funny how fighting is allowed to be part of pro hockey to this extent. But basketball and football players get techs, thrown out, and fined just for scowling too hard. Or in Tim Duncan's case, laughing on the sideline.
