The Super Bowl Killed All Star Weekend (1 Viewer)

Didn’t the NBA just ink an 11 year, 76 billion dollar TV deal? I don’t view that as “killing itself”.

The product may be mediocre, but, for whatever reason, people are still willing to pay to watch it.

Look at their ratings this season. Completely in the tank.

It's been a joke for years that NBA fans are more concerned with player and team drama than actually watching the games, but it seems even that is fading. The league is absolutely on a downward trajectory at the moment. All you see is complaints about how boring the games are, star players sitting out games, how meaningless the regular season is.

They got that contract at the height of the sports rights bubble because live sports were the only thing pulling in ratings on linear TV. Based on the ratings they've produced since the deal was signed, it was a gross overvaluation.

But it’s still cashing the checks, is it not?
I’m only an NBA fan in that it want to support the psyche and the economy of NOLA.

So was the All Star game a success this year? I didn't bother to watch.
I haven’t watched one in probably 20 years but I did hear that White Men Can’t Jump won the dunk contest for the third time in a row. 😂

Apparently that’s all he can do as I don’t see him showing up in the stat sheet too much.

But they got the payday, did they not?

So one thing I learned back when me and Andrus et al ran Hornets Report and had contacts with the team is that the all-star game will always be "successful." Outside of the events on Friday and partly Saturday (mainly upperbowl/terrace), most of the events on Saturday and Sunday are attended by the bigwigs who don't mind spending top dollar for a chance for their faces to be on TV.

I meant did the players actually compete seriously this year. No 200+ point games.

The All-Star game is boring as hell. No defense, no real effort.

Even the dunk contest kind of sucked. McClung can dunk, but can't make it on the court in the game--he must really suck. I miss Jordan and Dominique. Like someone already said, the actual every day players aren't in the events so...
