The Times-Picayune mock draft: Mike Triplett's picks (1 Viewer)

I'm really starting to worry that we aren't the only ones that think Hughes could be a special player!

The best Strongside linebacker in the draft and 2nd probably isn't close.

Hughes worries me as a LBer. He did play the position but spent most of his time at DE. If we were drafting him as a DE first, ok, but as a LB first, I'm skeptical. I'd be more comfortable with Washington in the first, since LB is our weakest link and he's a definitive OLBer.

I think they'd play him at DE in 3rd down situations to start, and allow him to develop as an all-around player. He'd also make our 30 fronts, which we played two entire games in last year, about one hundred percent more dangerous. Bobby McCray is not a 3-4 LB.

I can't see how the Jets would pass on him. He's the perfect Rex Ryan player (not to mention the perfect GW player...)

That would be great. I really think he is the best, and most versatile player, we could expect to still be there at 32. He can play both DE (maybe a bit on the small side) and OLB. That's the kind of versatility that GW likes. It allows him much more flexibility on D.

Those of you saying we would draft an offensive player if that player were BPA, or safety Taylor Mays, beware of this: GW said, more than once last season, that he called defenses that would disguise or make up for shortcomings on the front 7. So I think drafting front 7 players is a foregone conclusion; even with the signing of DE Alex Brown.

I've heard JH is bad against run...

Not what we want even in a pass rushing OLB.

That's the beauty of Hughes. He will be a pass rush specialist that can either put his hand or the ground or rush from the outside.

It's actually better than he isn't just one or the other and can be used in different ways.

Sounds like a GW type player?

You betcha.

I think there is no way we would use Hughes at SLB...but he could be a great situational pass rusher in his first season and 3 down DE down the road

We could use Hughes like Washington used Orakpo. However, I can't see he'll be on the board. Too many corners going late in the 1st in that mock. Pass rushers present more positional value
