The Titans game proved to me that this is the best version of Drew Brees we've ever seen (1 Viewer)

I know 2009, 2011. I get it.

But stay with me here.

I want you to go back into your collective memory banks and think of a road game that had unfavorable playing conditions and a game in which the offensive line played rather poorly. Now tell me where Drew Brees led us to 38 points and had a QB rating near 120?

I'll give you a game I actually attended back in 2011, you know the team regarded as the most prolific offense in NFL history? We went into Tampa, the offensive line struggled, and Drew Brees threw 3 interceptions to only 1 TD in a 26-20 loss. Same final score vs the Jets in 2013. He couldn't overcome it.

But here we are. The new and improved Drew Brees. Is that even possible?

Pretty incredible.

Drew Brees is about to become the first QB ever to average over 115 QB Rating over the span of two back to back seasons. Aaron Rodgers holds the highest average at 114.9.

We lost SP to injury in that game when Jimmy Graham got tackled into him and fell on him. Not apples to apples in the least and almost as significant a loss as Brees having to leave the Rams game this year.

I'll kindly disagree.

But beyond that, I still need someone to come up with a road game that Brees excelled in with bad O line play.

The video below gives you some more evidence.

This is what's been missing since we traded Graham: A true receiving TE who can run a vert down the seam and let Brees put it on him. We tried it with Arnold and Watson and Fleener. But Cook is it. He allows us to run all verts if we want and allow Brees to manipulate the coverage with his eyes and find his best matchup. It's impossible to stop if executed properly, and Brees is doing just that.

So, you add Brees' mental growth over the past 8-10 years to finally having all the weapons he needs and I think you're onto something.

I have to agree with you. You could see it on his face and in his eyes. Same as last week against the Colts.

He was working hard yesterday to find something that would work and to no ones surprise he found exactly what he was looking for.

Exactly my point.

We've seen him shred defenses when the offensive line is balling out. But when the offensive line breaks down like it did Sunday with penalties, poor pass protection and really poor run blocking, it never ends up very favorably for this offense and the outcome of the game. We ran the ball 17 yards for 54 yards outside that 40 yard TD by Kamara. But Brees overcame all off it and we look up at the scoreboard and there is a 3 and an 8 staring at us.

As much as I love Brees this season. What about the Atlanta game at home ? This version of Brees and offense still has the possibility of laying an egg. I would take 2011 Brees over this.

I don’t know how much he is audibling or how much he is really trying to play within himself and minimize mistakes but you can think back to games like the 2006 NFCCG in Chicago Bears on a slop field when the Drew was dropping back 5-7 steps and trying to push the ball down the field almost every play and that really played into the hands of the defense.

His precision and decision making have moved to another level last couple of years.

Yep.

The Bears game is a prime example. Obviously that was an elite defense, but if he had his current decision making skills the Saints would have won the Super Bowl that season.

You're forgetting the Rams game that season? That was the worst egg laying we may have ever seen with the Saints offense.

He's as dialed in and as intense as I've ever seen him and that has to be scary for defenses that have to try and stop him.

Throw in some MT#13 and Kamara and Cook and Tre Quan looks like he's starting to "get it" and this team could be a tough out in the post season.

He's a lot more cautious with the ball than he used to be. He won't zip it into some of the smaller windows as often as he used to attempt. Consequently, i doubt he will ever have a 3 or 4 INT game again. It's different than 2011 Drew. He has better completion % and fewer INTs these days. But I'm not sure it is better. But I won't fault you for making the case. It is essentially explosive plays vs efficiency.

After that play where kamara went out of bounds and didnt cut up the field and drew got angry. He must of said something in the Locke room because everybody started playing better especially kamara.

I still don't see what play we are talking about here, watched it back on DVR.
