the VG board football thread (4 Viewers)

ah my friends on the VG board--tough loss for sure but i'm glad i'm in good company here on the VG board--it's getting ugly on SSF

cheers friends, we still have one more game to go

the real question is: can you stomach rooting for chicago tomorrow against the vikings so we can rest Brees and Co. in week 17?

Maybe Cutler can avoid being a total ****-up for one night and beat the Viqueens.

I shouldn't be, but I'm surprised at how people are reacting to this loss.

It seems obvious to me that after jumping out to an early lead, Sean Payton shut it down on offense. He went vanilla, and when he tried to switch the flip back on, we sputtered, Colston fumbled, and we missed a field goal.

Payton is still growing as a coach. Just as he used to be "too cute" on a micro level with his play calling, he is now being too cute on the macro level with trying to not show much of his top shelf plays until the playoffs. I personally think he's playing his cards too close to the vest. It bit us today.

We don't know yet if his strategy will work; only the playoffs will show us.

But to me it's obvious what's going on. Since the playoffs became inevitable to us, we've looked crappy often. We never looked crappy before. I'm supposed to believe that we suddenly suck, or that people have suddenly figured out Payton's offense, when they haven't been able to since 06? That's just way too unlikely.

It's much more reasonable to assume Payton is outhinking things. He's shown an inclination to do that very thing in the past. He's been walking a razor thin line the past four weeks, and it's impossible to stay balanced. After jumping up 14 today, we became incredibly vanilla. He thought we were good enough to hold on to the lead being uber vanilla (and if we make a kick he's right).

The defense is another story. I don't believe they are holding schemes back; they are just short handed. They only gave up 10 points in regulation today though. I'm most concerned about them stopping the run. The pass defense will be fine once everyone is healthy. But getting pushed around up front is disturbing.

I honestly believe we will be the unstoppable force again in the playoffs. Payton is simply going too far with the hiding of his best schemes, and it might have cost us homefield advantage. But we will be just fine.

As for Carolina next week, I'd rather have everybody healthy than homefield advantage. Hopefully Chicago will do us a favor.

As a Saints fan, I ****ing hate this piss poor performance from the last 4 weeks. I know you do too.

Noone likes watching a performance like that, but you have to keep an eye on the big picture. Come poeple, we are smarter than that.

You cant tell me that all of sudden after the Pats game, our offense just stopped playing to their full potential. We still have the same fire power that we've had all season. IMO, Payton is getting out coached in the second half. He is clearly not making the proper adjustments at halftime.

Greg williams does have an injury problem on defense. As good as McKenzie looked today, Jenkins looked just as bad. It was obvious Freeman was picking on Jenkins at the corner spot. He needs to be moved back to safety where he was much more effective.

Thats just my two cents. Feel free to disagree, but dont forget, Mongoose is probably on my side.

Keep your eye on the big picture.

AP coughs it up late and Cutler surprisingly takes advantage. Saints get home field through the playoffs. The question is, with the way things have been going lately, will it matter?

lol i'm sure it'll make a big difference but it's just this sort of weird anticipation that makes you feel unsettled knowing that one more egg could end the season

Ah well, good stuff on home field though.

So I know there's a thread about this in the big boards section, but I'd rather discuss it with you guys...Whats your predicted playoff scenario versus what you want to see?

Mine happens to be one in the same

1. New Orleans
2. Minnesota
3. Dallas
4. Arizona
5. Philadelphia
6. Green Bay

the only team i don't want to see is Philly

they have been playing pretty good football lately

that being said, any team coming to our house for a playoff game is going to have a big mountain to climb

If we are playing right, it doesn't matter if it's Philly or the russian army - we're going to dominate.

Likewise, if we are playing the way we have the past four weeks, it also doesn't matter.
