Lordy me, this Being a Saints fan lark is not easy for sure
From amazing highs to crushing lows ( sometimes during the same game ) from confident optimism ( see week 1 and 2 ) to defeated pessimism ( last 2 weeks )
Thank the lord it’s not just us, just imagine the 28-3 nightmare of being a Falcons fan, or being a Browns fan facing the reality of the Watson contract, or being a Panthers fan for pretty much every reason
Every teams fans face highs and lows, mostly lows actually as there can only ever be one winner , short of being a Patriots fan with Brady or a Chiefs fan now it’s a tough ride for the rest of us
But you know what ?, l wouldn’t change it for a thing, 2009 can never be taken away from us, had the pleasure of watching one of the best quarterbacks in history for many years, the amazing game against the Falcons when the Superdome reopened, then this year the enormous amount of satisfaction of destroying the Cowboys
As with life, you have to take the highs with the lows
I look forward to every week, because you never know, you just never know

Great post.

People get riled when the old timers (or others) play some version of the “not a real fan” card, and I do get that in some cases. Fans with reasonable and specific critical takes, based in reasonable expectations, are right to feel offended by such accusations.

It’s the ones for whom anything less than a conference championship appearance (or win, or Super Bowl appearance/win) is a failure that need to reassess and check themselves.

These men, coaches and players, even the ones who “fail” in the eyes of those outside the arena, are elite in the world at what they do. The years of work and sacrifice that they expend to be where they are today is something that 99.9% of posters here can’t comprehend, much less personally emulate. Yet these keyboard warriors easily dismiss their efforts in September without waiting to see the full body of work. Those posters are NOT true fans in my opinion, but rather typical “what have you done FOR ME lately” front runners .

It literally makes me sick to my stomach to lose to the Falcons, but I share that feeling WITH the team, not as blaming them for it. We have a team that plays hard, has high character, and is very beat up at critical positions. I ride with them, not in premature nitpicking of them.

Does DA’s horrible record in one score games bother me? Of course it does. But every year gives us a new team, and the jury is still out on this one; a team no longer carrying the anchor of Pete Carmichael (much as the 2009 team was free of Gibbs). Barring a total collapse and loss of the locker room, December is the time for “should he stay or should he go”, not before.

As football fans, this^ is what it's all about. And honestly, I still think we are better than an average 2-2 team.
We all understand the main reason why we are not 4-0 right now. And that's the one intangible that no one can control. You just can't expect your backup players to perform as well as your starters.

Also, Shaheed, Carr, and Adebo would all love to have their infamous mistakes erased from yesterday's game. If any one of those three things hadn't happened, it's very likely the Saints would be 3-1 today. But reality never plays the 'if' game. You have to live with what actually took place and try to correct these flubs and move on.

Next Monday night is going to take forever to get here.
