The o-line is the first. Penning is so-so, but not the answer at right tackle. I keyed on him and he still gives up the inside move every time. But, he’s not the only problem. Most of the backup players are not any better. Hergel, Udoh, and Young are about the only players who can play. If we don’t pick up some better talent from other teams, we are in trouble.

WR is the second. Beyond Olave, shaheed, Wilson and Perry we are hurting. I can’t remember the last time I saw so many drops in a game. Now, st brown looked pretty good for the most part, but not as a player who should get a lot of playing time. I really like Samson Nacua, but they didn’t really give him a great chance to show much. Means ain’t ready to play. Tipton has an injury so we don’t know what he can do in a game.

It was good seeing dowell back, but lb depth is too strong for him to come back. Mike rose is a guy who should be on the practice squad. He could be next year’s alike Hudson.

I’m torn between Rico Payton and Shemar Jean Charles for the last cb spot, but I lean to Payton.

Jacobson just played his way off the practice squad. That was an awful performance. I like Fairchild as a practice squad player in his place.

Kibodi will be picked up by another team on waivers. He makes too many plays, and is hard to bring down.

Losing Justin Simmons is going to come back to haunt us. We don’t have a starting ss on this team.

The o-line is going to keep this team down all year. I hate to say this, but I wish we still had Andrus Peat on the team.

DR, all very good points.

I'd make these statements and agree with your statements above.

1. Oline - critical condition - No starting tackles out there right now. We might get a back-up tackle that is cut but you don't see starters getting cut at this position. Shame on us for not putting more emphasis on this in the draft. McKinstry could be a good player but another tackle should have been taken.
2. WR - concerning. Young. I'd look for us to pick up a vet off of the waiver wire. 4 WR sets we will be light. Add to that with Shaheed struggling with a turf toe we could be even lighter at that spot. We need one of the kids to step up.

Penning was better than so so today.

He started out the game with a pancake block that allowed a nice run.
His pass blocking was adequate .

His replacements struggled...

I was very disappointed in the high number of drop passes by our backup players...

We didn't lose Simmons, he chose to sign somewhere else for more money but I agree we could have used him.

Mims & Kibodi had very good days today.

Penning will be a big liability in the passing game. Throughout preseason, he struggled against what likely will be back up players across the NFL.

We face some of the most decorated pass rushers in the game early in the season. They’re gonna eat him alive unless the Saints have a plan to keep a TE next to him the entire game.

The bright spot for Penning as he’s at RT, so our QB will see it coming most of the time.

I think we need to be real with ourselves and understand Kubiak, while very good at what he does, cannot make steak out of hamburger.

This. 100%. McKinstry was a luxury pick by a DB coach masquerading as a head coach. He might be a good player one day but that pick will be questioned when your $140 QB is hurt for the season.

WR worries me a little. I think the 1s and the 2s are solid. Hopefully Perry develops this season with more usage. The unit lacks a superstar, but I think they can get the job done.

Penning has improved a lot week to week this preseason. Hopefully he continues to develop early in the season and becomes the rock we need him to be.

I'm not as doom and gloom as I was a few weeks ago. Still sticking with an 8-9 or 9-8 record though.

I think we will scour the waiver wire to add competent offensive lineman that we feel is an upgrade over some of our current player whether that be starters or backup positions.

I only see the offensive line as a concern as I think we have garnered some pretty good talent at the skill position.

Penning struggled. He was 2nd on the team with 2 QB pressures in a small sample size.

He also had bad moments in the run game missing his blocks in the open field and blown up on the end around.
