This team has 2 serious problems - and a few other observations (1 Viewer)

Watch team cut downs for tightend, wideouts, and maybe a vet backup qb.

The Saints could benefit by picking up a punter. Not impressed with the distance of Hedley's kicks.

If only we could've seen this coming. If only there was some way we could've known that relying on Penning at RT and a rookie LT was risky. Had they known then maybe they could've done something to prevent it. Maybe they could've said, "Does anyone else notice we don't currently have reliable starting Tackles? Is that something we should look in to? Having Tackles is kind of important." If only...

In what world does it make sense to go into the season with a retired starting RT, a failed LT starting at RT, and a rookie LT? You say they should've drafted another Tackle instead of Kool Aid. I say it shouldn't have even come to that. They should've had a handle on the position before the draft. It's baffling to me how they have handled the position the past few years. This didn't just sneak up on them. I love the Saints but it's frustrating how they ignore glaring issues until it's too late.

This is 100% what I think. It takes 3 years to groom a lineman. You don't go into the draft with 0 tackles and hope to fix it. You sign a couple of guys to act as your talent floor and hope your draft pick can catch on offering an upgrade.

We did nothing at TE, WR or RB either.

Our offense is underwhelming and about 1 injury away from a Trainwreck. Olave, AK, Carr, Hill or any of the OL get injured, then 5 wins may be difficult.

Not really concerned with the WR group with Taysom and Kamara having many touches. It doesn't make sense to have that much invested in it. Perry is good, getting better this year likely. Plus we have Jauwan Johnson working back too. Oline will get better with Kubiak. Pete had the Oline blocking for way too long on most plays and a weak running game.

dont be shocked when we trade for a WR

also, in a run heavy offensive scheme penning will be fine. if we have to throw, he is toast.

Even if the play was designed to turn inside Penning failed to establish inside leverage at all. He doesn't fire across the ball to get inside his defender whatsoever.

He lost so bad to the point the defender won the leverage battle with both arms extended to disengage.

Also take a look at the bottom of the screen and you'll see our TE and WR double the defender in the attempt to secure the edge. Why would they be attempting to secure the edge if this is a designed inside run?

Inside or outside doesn't matter Penning got completely destroyed.
That's NOT what I said . The play was designed for TP to turn his man INSIDE and for the WR to run the play OUTSIDE. Look at how the 2 edge blockers are sealing the edge and for the WR to take it OUTSIDE . Only thing TP could have maybe done better was not get just a bit deep.
TP did NOT get destroyed!! Maybe you should read what Belfast Saint posted, He's a guy with OL experience , Probably knows most about OL than both of us SMH

Penning was driven back two yards on that play, it's why Means ran into him. Even if Means goes around Penning look at the other blocks. They don't seem to be open but it is hard to assume Means can't bust it open. Just a bad play all around and that is why we have preseason
I really don't think you know how this play is supposed to go. Means gets the handoff and is supposed to take and outside move. Instead he immediately makes the wrong read ( even Duece said so on the radio) and takes an INSIDE move , which he is NOT supposed to do because TP is blocking his man to the INSIDE. Now maybe just a bit TP could have held ground a bit but that not the issue. Means like an idiot runs into TP and the man he is blocking. Just look at the 2 blockers on the edge. They are setting the edge because the play is DESIGNED to go outside. How can you not see this. Or are you just determined to blame TP for everything that goes bad? SMH

I think obviously Olave and Shaheed are #1, #2. #3 Cedrick Wilson, DA has said over and over how he loves his ability to block in the running game. #4 has to be AT Perry. Dude is so average, underwhelming in practice but shows up in games. Led the entire NFL in receiving in preseason for what it’s worth. I think we keep 5 but regardless 5 or 6 will be based on ability in kick and punt coverage more than ability to play the WR position. Bub Means does not look ready but imagine he makes the team due to draft position. Can see being a healthy inactive every week.

This is the second time in three years that they are trying to go into the season with a rookie LT. They drafted Penning and hoped for the best in '22. Injured and didn't look great. They tried Penning again last year. Disaster. He was such a liability that he went from starting to 3rd on the depth chart. Total liability when on the field. So naturally they decide he's the answer at RT and draft another rookie to start at LT. They are willingly heading into seasons without proven starters at LT and now RT. That's amazing to me.

And I hear you at TE. We've seen the Saints pass on so many quality TE prospects over the past few years. They are operating like we have no issue at TE. You'd think we had Travis Kelce or something. We don't.
