Top Golf out, Drive shack in @ old T.P. building? (1 Viewer)

Well there is already some golf place at Metairie Rd and Causeway, and there was some incentive tied to this to connect Howard Ave all the way from whatever they are calling that circle now.

I had no idea that they had a golf place by Metairie Road and Causeway. Seems like another hard to get to location. It can't be very big can it? I don't recall much open land there, but I haven't spent much time in the area.

Like I said, I get why the City would want to encourage a big out of state investment in that area, I just don't think it's likely to really work given how hard that location is to get to. IIRC, the only real access is off of Earhardt and it's not really obvious how to get there for people not familiar with the area. And Metry and St. Tammy folks are not likely to want to pass by a housing project to go hit golf balls and drink sheetty beer.

I can understand why they picked that location, and it’s not to further gentrification. Think about that area for a moment. Sure you have the projects right around there, but you also have wealthy individuals on the other side of Earhardt. You have the fray bros, and and college kids but a stones throw away. You have easy access (from the I-10 via Howard Ave Exit) for folks coming in from Metry. The location could be better, but it wasn’t the “death blow”.

Drive Shack is a mess. Look at their financials. Look at their stock. The company is sputtering, and the numbers show it. I had a decent size position in the company a few years back pre-Covid, and took a bath on those shares. The company needs new direction if they are ever to compete with Top Golf.

As for the mess that was the Times Picayune. Tragic. All that mess, and just a sitting eyesore.

I believe the Newhouse family donated that property to Xavier University, but someone check me on that. Whoever owns that property now, is going to need to fix that up.

I believe Endymion parks their floats (their float barn) right in that area. I wonder if they or a different parade group would be interested in buying up that spot (at a discount) and parking their floats there.

Yeah, the advantage of the location is that it can be seen off the Interstate, but I just don't see lots of Metry or St. Tammany people wanting to drive past a housing project to get there and I don't think the rich Uptown people are really enough to sustain a big project like that. But, I could be wrong.

Anyway, that entire area including the area on the other side of I-10 with the jail is all wasted and not a particularly good welcome to Downtown New Orleans. The rest of the stuff in that area is all warehouses like Kentwood and others so a float den would seem to make a lot of sense.

but I just don't see lots of ... St. Tammany people wanting to drive past a housing project to get there .
having taught up here for almost 2 years, i'm not convinced Northshore people know that New Orleans is an actual place - whatever is the opposite of Shangri La, that's what the ancestors call it

Reading “Kentwood” reminds me, man, I miss 10-k.

It does pretty well. Got a lit parking garage and all. New one opening soon in Mandeville

Also got one in Houston

Never been there.

Also, don't forget the lovely view of the jail.

Oh, it's golf simulation. That explains how they have the space for it there.

The whole allure of a place like that is the alcohol.

Ain't nobody I know gonna risk a round of golf on 2 or 3 pitchers of beer only to have to traverse the 24 miles of causeway where I swear the Causeway Police can sense if you have been drinking.

No thanks.

So many ride up i12 to the one in Baton Rouge

It was always a weird location to build an entertainment business. It's a difficult place to get to despite being clearly visible from the Interstate. I only ever went to the T.P. building once and I'm not sure I even recall how to get there. Plus, a golf thing like that is probably going to need to pull in lots of people from Jefferson Parish and St. Tammany to be successful and I suspect many in Jefferson and St. Tammany Parish would rather drive to Baton Rouge to go to Top Golf than go someplace in Downtown New Orleans. Seems like either Metry or the North Shore would be better locations for this.
You really think that that little recreation spot would need to pull people from St Tammany and Jefferson to be successful? St Tammany???

This is not some 30,000 seat arena and Orleans parish has plenty enough people that play golf for that thing. I'm not going to say your post is full of dog whistles, but their ears sure perked up for a sec. Jeez.
