Tougher question: Alcohol or Marijuana? (1 Viewer)

I have nothing against folks who do either...all I know is that I'm glad I no longer do either...you can get rid of both for all I care...they were both my downfall...whether done seperately or together....I lost control...and I paid the cost...my only advice...is don't let it get control of your life....

Alcohol has good and bad.

Alcohol(within limits) is good for your health! (heart, cholesterol)
When abused, alcoholics are bad for all involved.
When abused, alcohol is also damaging to the liver.

When abused, marijuana is damaging to the brain.
Can someone tell me if there is a health benefit to marijuana?
I know it is pain relieving like for those suffering with certain cancers, etc.
Anything else?

I wouldn't want someone driving under the influence of either.

Marijuana does NOT damage the brain. And other benefits are lessening the chances of getting cancer. I'd say that's the big one. During prohibition, only priests were allowed to have alcohol, so it would most likely be the same. I'd say that pain relieving is a mental health benefit.

Too many issues with alcohol. Besides, if pot were legalized and alcohol made illegal, I'd just go back to brewin my own swill.

There are studies that show links between marijuana use and schitzophrenia/psychosis, especially when MJ is taken in adolescence [1]. The evidence is not conclusive, but to say, categorically, that marijuana does not damage the brain, is quite a reach, especially when you are claiming benefits (reduced cancer risk) based, at best, on similarly non-conclusive studies.

All in all, your post suggests, well, that you might have been smoking something. At some point, anyway. Hopefully not as an adolescent. Whatever, I'd suggest that it's main benefit is as a relaxant, but that's based on heresay.

The correlation between marijuana and schitzophrenia is only if you already had schitzophrenia and smoked it. And it is a relaxant, so I don't know why you then claim that that is hearsay. A problem some people have with marijuana is that it makes you lazy. Well, you're lazy because of how relaxed you are. It's not hearsay. There is a mountain of evidence that is being dismissed because of the stigma created from all of the lies.
