It’s amazing that some people don’t even want to acknowledge this.

At the very least, he felt he needed to get away and left SOME uncertainty about whether he was done. Hopefully that’s all there is and we will find out later today that he decided to stay.

But again, dismissing this as some sort of made up narrative when the owner herself doesn’t know what’s going on is just ignoring facts. I’m done trying to justify facts that are staring people right in the face.

most have been SAYING ALL ALONG that- he just is unwinding from long and difficult season.

some have been beating this drum that "omgz there is way more to this and he may be done here - ONOZ".

What you and them fail to see is the repeated pattern of "talking heads" attempting to "Scoop" a story...to the point that they manufacture one with WORDS. Ambiguous words that Rappaport never once clarified.

After all, thats his gig. Clicks and views and retweets. Now has no less than 7 media outlets "quoting" his tweet and looking for confirmation, either way. Meaning now, every sports journalist with some perceived back channel is attempting to scoop the other.

The ONE sports journalist/reporter MUM on ANY OF THIS is none other than Jay Glazer. The guy WITH the direct line to Sean.

Wouldn’t it make more sense for the folks who get so upset about this, claiming it’s bs and such, wouldn’t they be better served just not participating in the thread? Idk, just weird to me.

Its a rabbit hole that i simply cant avoid. Its like a vortex for me.

"Jumping the gun," at least in this instance, does not mean that he does not have facts. Again, Nick has stated that he almost wrote an article about the fact that no one knows what Sean is doing. And he was not the only local reporter who debated on whether or not to address it. Heck, there was one instance in which I almost stated something similarly a week or so ago. Ian does not sit on anything because his job is to break big stories. Nick has a long-term view of things and shows more restraint as do some of the other reporters. Plus, they understand how New Orleans Saints fans will feel such a story in a away that someone like Ian does not care about or has to care about as the love/loyalties do not exist.

The strange thing is, I am not even a big fan of Ian. I do not dislike the guy but I do not consider him a friend or anything. But in this case, he is not making this story up. Maybe when you cry wolf, people always think that is always the case (although in many instances, it is more of that tendency to run with information that gets him and others in situations where the story is either misleading or wrong). But truth be told, there are people who have wondered about what Sean is doing and it is not just those in the media who speculate each year about what he is doing. Sean was exhausted last season. I find it remarkable how much he was able to get the team to focus through every challenge and setback, especially in the final weeks. I even wondered if he would mail it in but the sense was they felt like they could stay make a run in the playoffs if they could get in. He never stopped coaching, but after a long season there was almost a relief--not of being happy the season had ended but just that change to recharge. There is a normal course of action that occurs at the end of each season. This year, Sean diverted from the normal routine. Sean decided to go on vacation to "get away." Those things didn't necessarily raise eyebrows but just how silent he has been. And I know "silent" here feels a bit ambiguous, which is why I likened it in another thread to two years ago when no one knew what Drew would do because he just took time away to reflect. In fact, many assumed he would retire. Ultimately, he came back. It is very likely that Sean comes back. To be sure, the national media loves this story because it elicits a certain kind of attention. And some will speculate -- they will go beyond the reality is people not knowing what Sean will do -- to suggest that he wants to coach elsewhere or this or that. The broadcast interest in him is real but this is not the first year that interest has been there. He is not coaching another team this year other than the Saints. He is or was just a man tired and, really and truly, you have to think about the last three or four seasons of heartbreak and then with the craziness of this season. I wish Ian had not chosen to write about it (if only for the speculation it causes) but I can also say Sean is smart and, to some degree, doesn't mind having his name constantly swirl. There are indications that he will be back, that things should pick up with meetings and certain off-season preparations, and this will be forgotten as attention turns toward getting this team ready for next season.

We've been subjected to these reports on and off now for what? The past 5 years or so? Is it really unusual for a head coach or GM under contract to take a vacation, turn off their cell phones, and not take calls from the media while they unwind with a little R&R? Common sense says no and that CSP is NOT the only HC to do this. But for some reason, the media (it is not just Ian Rapport) is trying to generate some headlines and click bait by speculating on what he wants to do simply because he hasn't told the Saints organization he will be back for 2022. IDK, has Bill Belicheck told the Kraft family he's coming back for 2022? What about these other HCs who are under contract? Have they indicated they're coming back for 2002, or do they even have to given they have a contract and it is kind of a moot point. I mean how many times do we have to hear this speculation at best that he's going to Dallas.

I guess in a few weeks we will see but pardon me if I remain very skeptical and take a negative view with regards to these punks in the media. They do anything to generate clicks and then these meatheads at the anchor desk even pick up on it, not because there is anything to it, but because the link generated all the clicks online and in social media so they then just introduce it in their narratives. Again, we'll see in the coming two weeks or so, but if this just turns out to be another "fake news" type scenario, I think all of us a have a right to slam this guy and his cohorts as they amateurs they are.

Well that I can certainly understand. I don’t know how anyone can be certain, and I’ve not seen that in the threads, but that doesn’t mean it’s not there. Well aside from you being certain that Sean will still be here, next month next year etc as you posted. I definitely hope you’re right.

Other than the vacation schedule apparently changing, what do we really know? (Sincere question, I want to make sure I'm not omitting facts from my consideration of this.)

As to the vacation schedule, do we know why that changed? Meaning, has it been established it was primarily for Payton's wellbeing, or could it be something he felt like his staff needed, or he thought the staff needed at least as much as he did?

I can't recall any other team having a season quite like the Saints just endured. That it wasn't immediately business as usual when this season concluded really doesn't seem alarming to me, on its own.

Valid points although in this world not an end all be all imo.

As I’ve stated previously I do think there is some substance to the burnout talk. Wouldn’t blame Sean one bit, I’d totally understand if that were the case. I also realize this is a topic every offseason. We all shall see.
