Underhill: Saints are interviewing probably 12 coaches (Final: officially 6 interviews) (2 Viewers)

Between Glenn and Weaver, I think Weaver has a much better defensive philosophy and better pedigree. I hope he gets a serious look.
Agreed. Glenn is a very solid candidate and may be more popular, but Weaver appears to have a more successful coaching background. He’s more productive as a DC. The D-Lines of Houston, Baltimore, and Cleveland were also very productive under Weaver as D-Line coach before he was a DC. Huge upgrade for the Saints D-Line and defense if Weaver is hired.

It looks like Weaver could look to a multitude of directions for a good offensive coordinator with ties to Miami, Houston and Baltimore. Whether Kubiak goes to Seattle or if he wants his own guy.

I must say this interview process is more broad than the time when Dennis Allen was hired.
Really? We brought in several candidates, or maybe I'm thinking about the OC search. Mick usually casts a broad net even if he knows who he wants.

We brought in plenty guys for OC, but I think we only brought in 5 candidates for the HC last time. IIRC it was DA, Pederson, Moore, Flores, and Glenn.

I think he’s essentially a Jet, and the Saints already know it.

I'm good with that. If we are going with a defensive HC, I like Weaver better because I like his scheme and the success he has had. I've also heard he is a leader like Glenn, but I don't know if that is true. And I would prefer most of the offensive guys with McCarthy probably on the top of my list. I'm not sure about Kafka, but according to Underhill, he has come close to several jobs and he is one of those guys that people around the league think is a great offensive mind, but fans know nothing about. I think the attraction of Kafka is more that he worked under Andy Reid more than anything he did with Mahomes or Jones. But, he did have Jones looking good for one year. And outside of Barkley they haven't really had much offensive talent until they got Nabers this year. But what will matter in the end is can he run a team and lead a team. And, frankly, nobody really ever knows that until they get the job and only people who have actually interviewed these guys knows if they even have a shot to do it.

I'm really curious as to what the appeal of Kafka is.

According to Underhill, His resume doesn't blow you away but people in the league think he’s brilliant and underrated. He also says that part of the reason Reid kept trying to get Eric Bieniemy an OC job was so he could promote Kafka and not lose him.

More from Underhill on Kafka and some of the other candidates here:

I have no idea if he's any good, and I'm not sure any of us can, but the connections to Reid and Reid's opinion seems to be the source of the attraction.

He’s Puerto Rican, and may help check a box so that we are ready to pull the trigger on our guy in the near future. JMO.
