Underhill: The Saints believe their running game has the potential to be as good as anyone's (3 Viewers)

Options... its all about options...

Am I gonna pass, am I gonna throw, am I gonna hand it off, am I gonnna fake a pass then throw it to the back in the flat, am I gonna fake a pass then hand it off, am I gonna run, am I gonna fake a pass to the RB, or am I gonna throw to the TE, or am I gonna fake a pass to the TE and throw it to the RB, or am I gonna fake a pass to the Te then the RB then hit Michael Thomas for 15 yards?

tic-toc... better guess right.

That's how our offense used to work. We've been about half that for a few years.

A play I would love to see make a return is a rerun of the Deuce up the middle Flea Flicker. This time with Peterson to Ginn! Even if it doesn't connect it will force the defense to honor that threat and stay back allowing for better runs up the middle later in the game.

That depends. Is it 2nd and long? If so, you're gonna pass it. :hihi:

Really, it will be refreshing if our running game can keep the defense fresh.

I'll say 5 more running plays a game is not out of the question. Could put them at 135 to 140 yards a game. That is balance and ball control, time of possession offense. Make the running game a thret. It opens up the whole Offense. They have the O-line to do it. Running game starts with the O-line. So glad they got the Ramczyk pick and FA guard ( forgot his name). A reinforced line. 2 new RBs and new players at every level on D.

It all works togegher. Running the ball a little more does help keep the defense fresh. Having depth helps keep the defense fresh. Having a fresh defense keEPS games in reach which allows you to run a little more... which helps keep the defense fresh and so on.

I wonder if AP is still going to line up about 10 yards away from the QB.

If not, he will get stuffed at the line a lot just like our other RB's. I preached about this last year. The coach has to trust the RB and blocking. Neither have time or space to get untracked in 2 yards.

AD being sub par in pass blocking might be a problem. SR posters used to complain until the cows came home about Ingram and telegraphed plays early on, how will that work with Peterson? And I have no idea how AD's production goes if on a rotation where he's is fed a dozen carries a game at best.

We will likely use AD in run heavy formations, but that does not mean we will be one dimensional when he's on the field. Peterson has proven he can be very productive against 8 or 9 man fronts in the NFL. If he is healthy, he's going to create a lot of one on one match-ups on the outside and a lot of opportunities for Drew to check to play action and take shots down the field.

The beauty of the Peterson signing is that he is a luxury. We don't need him to catch passes out of the backfield or pick up blitzes on third and longs. Those are situations better suited for Kamara and Ingram, and when Sean Payton has the right pieces, he is one of the best at putting them in positions to succeed.

He will make the roster Murphy will be the one cut.

Remember Payton like to keep 5
Ingram, Peterson, Kamara, Cadet, Lasco

I think that 5 includes the FB. Or a guy might get a spot because he's a kick returner (Murphy)

edit: I meant get a spot because he's a kick returner like Murphy has done int the past. Not that Murphy will make the team this year.
