N/S [Update: Pearsall released from hospital] 49ers WR Ricky Pearsall Shot During Robbery Attempt (1 Viewer)

i love san fransicko i lived there for several years. i know you never know show anything fancy no matter what. and you especially don't have anythign showing in your car.

San Fran has a huge problem with smash and grabs and petty theft but it's really safe from a violent crime perspective. Someone mentioned NYC earlier as well. Both of these cities are some of the safest cities in the US and I never feel any sort of danger in either. It's nothing like walking around in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Jackson, Memphis, etc. Two different worlds all together.

It doesn't really matter how safe a city is when you get shot in the chest. A friend of mine is a news stringer in San Fransisco. He was on the scene covering it, when a murder takes place in San Fransisco it's a really big deal. He didn't even know who was shot until hours later when the reports started coming out.

I always find it interesting when people blame the dude who gets shot/robbed for getting shot/robbed.
Not me, about 40 years ago I moved to Brooklynn New York. I was warned by everyone I knew up there not to wear any Jewelry on the subway trains because people would rob you on the train and some lady was thrown out the window to her death just the week before over a golf chain!
In some cases it’s the person with the riches that has to watch out! In our case you simply had to hide it in a pocket until you were in a safer area.

It's not all their fault. You hear a lie repeated enough, it gets hard for some people not to believe it's true. San Fran offers a better quality of life, and has less crime then most places in the country. Not hard to see where those kind of comments come from.
Crime is more than murder.

San Fran has one of the highest theft rates in the country, probably the highest once you realize their DA doesn’t prosecute half of the cases.

Yes but a fake street sign once said stealing is legal and that’s all that matters.

I took care of Keith McCants in trauma setting in early 90's after he was shot for messing with someone else's girlfriend. Keith was always full of himself and just parked his car outside a gate to McDill with the girl and her boyfriend found them. Dude pulled a .25 pistol and pointed at KM thru driver's window, Keith as usual was high as a kite just reached up to grab the gun and the dude capped him just below the armpit. Lodged in his lat (phenomenally muscled as he was). In the ER, Keith was ranting about some dude shot him (he knew the guy it turns out) and he was gonna die regretting what he did. KM refused admission and refused removal of bullet that night and walked out hostile and on a hunting trip. MP's locked the shooter up at McDill (he was off base illegally) and kept him out of harm's way. Many month's passed before Keith elected to get that little piece of lead out of his lat muscle. Advantage NFL'rs for muscle mass protection, Hope the same for Ricky P.

Something similar happened to an RB for Washington a few years back, and he was shot multiple times. He had a full recovery and is now their top RB; I hope this kid has a similar recovery.

It’s not a matter of blaming though. It’s a matter of common sense and being aware of your surroundings. The world is messed up and you can put yourself in dangerous situations regardless of whether it’s right or wrong. The place where he got robbed has huge businesses like Macys closing down because of crime. The mall there chose to default on its loan rather than keep possession of it. It’s not a place to flaunt your stuff.

Right but if I have my sister over for a few days and I tell her to park her brand new car in my garage because there have been a bunch of break ins, but she forgets and her car gets broken in to, i’m not saying ‘ha see i told you so’. I’d be more disappointed in the place where I live.

Indeed. But the 49ers aren’t really in San Francisco. The practice facility and stadium are 43 miles from where this occurred. There is no reason to be in that neighborhood (.5 miles from one of SFs worst neighborhoods), especially wearing a Rolex. But he’s young, in a place he doesn’t know well and just got 1st round money. I’m sure it’s a big adjustment. I’d have hoped the 49ers staff would be giving these guys some heads up on what not to do and where not to do it.

I don’t blame him, but my broke arse put’s my wallet in my front pocket if I’m ever near there. I’m definitely not flashing my Rolex.
