USMNT - ‘23 and beyond (4 Viewers)

On behalf of Mexico, I'd like to thank U.S. Soccer for sending the Washington Generals to Guadalajara.
Pretty much, lol. It was good to see what some of the young ones can do. Safe to say, they've got a long way to go, but the talent is there. Just need experience.

0 potency in this lineup… did we even have a shot all half?

Maaaaaaaan if it wasnt clear how big the talent drop is from A to B team, then you arent paying attention. Couple that with what looked to be some tired players, and no goal scoring threat- there you have it.

I know Josh started and i dont think he had a single shot in 60 min.

The bigger takeaway for me ( not having a goal scorer has long been an issue for me ) though was the press by opponenet.

Go watch the Canada game from a few months back. Then watch this game. Teams have now figured it out- we are quite slow and predictable when attempting to play out the back. Tim Ream dribbling inside the 18 yd box with zero awareness? Say it aint so. Dude is like 60 in soccer years.

I think Poch is sorting thru the roster at the moment- seeing who can and cant. I dont take much stock in this game. This is a feeling out process for him.

But i can only imagine his inner thoughts as the game unfolded...

Oh he wasn't thrilled, lol. But yeah, this is gonna take some time for sure. I think he'll do a good job. Like what he brings to the table so far.

i'd offer that the Panama match was our (mostly) B squad and this was our C
I noped out after 1st goal (and it being 10pm!!)
when i saw the horrible giveaway in our 1/3rd leading to the hella light penalty free kick, i felt uncompelled to watch more

Josh was probably my biggest disappointment from the Panama match - a shame bc it seemed like he was ready to push for minutes now i'm not sure he makes the squad

Well this C squad is just an injury away.

That's the issue as I see it currently. How does Poch integrate his style of play to what these B/C type players toil away at their respective clubs where, most likely, isn't the same tactical strategy/setup

if our backs could push forward, i'd like our squad make-up much more - would love to play an attack 3-4-3
but backs seem to be our biggest concern. i think we have to play four at the back (- Ream, bc time) bc i think any 3 we'd put back there would leave us too exposed
i've never been a fan of dropping Weah back, but that might be best at this point

Dest/Jedi have no problem doing that- its CBs we need to sort - no one has yet to step up to snatch the mantle from Ream.

I thought Miles was heir apparent, then ruptured achilles and now down the chart. CCV? Richardson?

But whatever combo, must be ready to defend and know how to defend w/ 2.

As for goal scoring- that needs sorting too. Having a real threat up top changes the dynamic of the opponent

i really feel if our backs and mids can progress the ball forward, the goal threat sorts itself out
more chances will create better chances

Better chances, sure. its the finishing those chances that have been an issue.

Look no further than Josh in Pan game in first 10 min. Cant miss those at this level. 6yds out and put OVER FRAME of goal.

i've seen Haaland and Salah miss sitters - it's egregious from Josh bc he gets one shot every 4 games

what you are telling me is that if Pep inserts Josh for Haaland, Josh becomes a world class finisher ( because of all the service he will get )?

Speaking of Pep....

great short here- Luca Toni- Italian striker - having dinner w/ Pep and looks to be Capelli, says Pep ruined football with his ( and Messi ) in "False 9 " position. Luca couldnt find a team for 4 years ( he was old-school striker - up top )

pretty funny even if you dont understand Italian. ( Even at end Luca talks about his height vs Messi lol )
