N/S Vikings Sign Jefferson to 4 Years/$140 Million (1 Viewer)

Just because Olave isn't there NOW, doesn't mean he won't develop. It also has nothing to do w/the fast rising market price! Jefferson's pay will be eclipsed at least 3 times in the next few years(likely more). Lots of complaints about Carr's salary, but it's now not in the top half of the league! There are already lesser QB's making more & it'll just go up faster.

As for picking a 1st round WR instead of OL(esp saying the Saint's don't use top picks for high quality), over the last few years, we've had almost a full slate of 1st-2nd rd picks on the OL. The career expectancy for an OL is way better than a WR. So, you get a better return on the investment. W/the current state of College ball, many more WR's are pro ready than OL(in every round). The current state of NFL OL is an obvious example of the shift in training. The "pitch & catch" & 7on7 offseason emphasis puts the QB/WR on a higher floor. Even the best OL in the league isn't on the same level as in years past.

It's almost like some of you think that you are paying out of your own pocket, rather than Ms. Benson!

Olave may improve but IMO he just doesn't have the size/mass/strength to be as dynamic a WR as JJ is......there is no comparison.....

Never said anything about Olave in comparison to Jefferson. It was strictly about the op & pay. I would bet that Olave hits a high mark by the time his new contract comes around. That's just the nature of the leaps that the cap takes almost every year & the copy cat nature of the NFL.
Thomas broke the bank before he broke himself. Cooks, while w/his 5th team, is still performing at a good pace to eclipse many other more highly regarded WRs. Does that make him as good a WR as Thomas? Not really, but for his career will be a better producer.
There is a long standing record of the highest paid player NOT living up to the highest contract.

Got it, totally agree with above.....I think Olave doesn't have the size/strength/physicality to be a top WR, he will always be a good one while healthy but he doesn't deserve top WR money IMO, but, as you say he may get it anyways.....

Cooks is a true enigma, in the right role on the right team he can be uber productive but it seems no team ever signs him to a 2nd contract....
