I'm 'in the market" for front-load washer/dryer. Any suggestions or reccomendations?

I researched them last year and went with the Bosch Nexxt 500 series. They had good reviews in CR/forums and a nice feature set for the price. Haven't been disappointed so far.

Bosch won't let you down if you have that kind of greenback..
DO NOT GET A KENMORE WASHER, they are notorious for bearing going out that causes the thing to always get out of balance and shake the whole house.

Kenmore, most likely made by whirlpool.

LG is really pricey.

in all likelihood if you don't go bosch or lg, you'll end up with one that is either made by on company that owns most of the brands now. it's either ge or whirlpool that owns most brands now. Frigidaire has been a good brand for ages without costing a fortune. and not as likely to get out of balance. you can toss a 5lb bag of sugar in ziploc in it and won't get out of kilter.

I shied away from a Front Loader since there were some issues with some of them developing mold/mildew in humid climates.* Even though NJ is humid only 3 or 4 months out of the year; I didn't want to take any chances. We eventually chose a Fisher & Paykel washer. We were going to replace the dryer but since clothes are so dry when leaving the washer the dryer has been functioning like a champ. At the time I bought the washer it was the only one on the market with a 2-year manufacturer's warranty.

* There are a number of ways to prevent the mildew from forming as listed on this web page. However, my wife indicated that's too much work for her to deal with in addition to the laundry. Front Loader mildew? - Laundry Room Forum - GardenWeb

Frontload washers are environmentally better, but don't clean as well as top loaders. CR says Bosch is the best, but it is pricey. We use a gas-powered dryer.

i bought GE brand from a blemish store 5 yrs ago, both still running strong - not sure about the front loaders though

i would buy cheap. my mom spent a lot money on her washer and dryer and the washer got fried quick so she had to replace it so i bought cheap so when mine breaks one day its only $300-$400 to replace lol

do not buy ANY GE product. they all suck. stay so far away from them that I suggest that you not even watch NBC.

Bought Maytag Neptunes (front loaders) when we moved into this house 7 years ago. They are still running great. I also put a combo (piggy back) unit in the NO condo after Katrina and it works great also. I don't think you can go wrong with them but from what I remember, they were pricey.
