Washing Machine/Dryer Reccomendations..... (1 Viewer)

We love our GE washer and dryer. The heating element in the GE dryer sold me, it was twice the size of all the others and looked more substantial. Everyone gets a lemon every now and then, if you ask enough people you will find someone who has had a bad experience with "brand x". Regardless of the brand you choose, be sure to get the extended warranty and you should be fine.

Frontload washers are environmentally better, but don't clean as well as top loaders. CR says Bosch is the best, but it is pricey. We use a gas-powered dryer.

Consumer Reports says the front load washers are better at cleaning than top loaders.

If you are looking to buy a front loading washer, check you local water company - in some parts of the country you can a substantial rebate (I think mine was $225) because they use so much less water.

do not buy ANY GE product. they all suck. stay so far away from them that I suggest that you not even watch NBC.

Wow, you must have incredible bad luck with GE. I've had exactly the opposite. GE standard washer and dryer are still running fine after 12 years.. maybe the front loaders are worse? My landlord got a Kenmore front-load set and 2 years later, the seal on the washer tub (it's a two-piece plastic assembly) started leaking. IT was cheaper to get a new one than change the gasket.

P.s. LG = GE now

technically, I've never had a GE washer or dryer, but

Refrigerator - defrost heater in freezer broke after 13 months (yes, it had a one year warranty). $300 to repair

over stove microwave/exhaust vent combo - it literally melted from the heat of being over the stove DESPITE IT BEING DESIGNED TO GO THERE. had to replace it - $300.

Dishwasher - pump on four year old Profile (high end GE brand) dishwasher died. $500 to repair

stand alone ice maker (Profile) - I've spent $500 trying to get this four year old thing fixed and it still keeps breaking

(not mine, but my mother-in-law's) profile double convection oven (three years old) the fan makes a hell of a racket and the repair man says it's supposed to do that (I have one just like it and it's no where near as loud).

I'm house hunting now and if the house so much as has a GE alarm clock in it, it's a deal breaker.
