What are you reading? (4 Viewers)

the silmarillion has to be the hardest book i've ever read. scratch that, tried to read. wuthering heights is easier.
I would agree with that! I tried to read it a second time and just couldn't get past the first couple of chapters. Maybe again, someday.

I am pretty fluent in Spanish. I tried to read Love in the Time of Cholera in Spanish. It got to be too much because I had to stop & translate so many words. My Spanish is not that sophisticated.

Reading an old Stephen King book "Salem's Lot"....I think I may have read it like 30 years ago....it's a good one IMO....

it isn't even that old of a book is it? 20 years?

Also will always be remembered as the freakin scariest made for TV movie in history....I was like 14 when it came out....gave me a few nightmares....
all i remember is his jeep lol

there was an announcement of a remake, but i don't know if it ever went to production. one of the few remakes i wouldn't mind seeing.

I think it is because it is a draft of stories Tolkien planned to tell rather than a finished work. Some of the stories are more fleshed out than others, but it still is not a complete work. I love LoTR and the Hobbit. I am meh on the Silmarillon. It is cool to have all the background info, but it really isn't a "story" in my opinion.

I tried many moons ago and gave up. I would consistently find myself at the bottom of a page with no idea of what I'd just read, and would reread the page only to find myself again at the bottom of the page wondering what the hell I'd just read.

Agreed, it's a fantasy history book that resembles a ton of loosely formed ideas and names and details that don't neatly fit in any way or order. It's like he purposely wrote it to be confusing or difficult to read unless you have a super good retention vibe....and then it is probably still confusing....
